LeeDavid Civil Unions in Hawaii 0 Feb 3 2009, 1:34 AM EST by LeeDavid

I added my testimony to the House of Representatives here in the state of Hawaii. I was so glad to get a chance to voice my opinion directly to the voting members of the state congress!! (I was mistaken in my earlier thread when I said that this bill being voted on this month would not offer as many rights as a bill for full "marriage" rights in Hawaii--- apparently, the civil unions bill (HB 444) being voted on is all inclusive of the legal rights of marriage....... Now, though, we still have to wrestle against the DOMA laws. I've been continuing to write directly to the White House to remind our new President that he promised to get rid of that damn DOMA!! I think all of YOU out there should drop him a line and remind him of all of his promises to the gay and lesbian community that he made during his campaign!
The more of us who keep writing, the better!!! If YOU write any letters to the White House (or to your state or federal Senators, and or Congressman)--- I'd love to hear about them HERE on this thread. Your letters might give me (and the rest of the viewers here) some more ideas for MORE letters of our own!!

The State Legislature in Hawaii will soon be voting to APPROVE civil unions here!! I guess this is a good thing, but that still leaves out a lot of the rights of full "marriage" that our heterosexual counterparts are getting EVERYDAY. The Legislative session will be finishing up on May 7th------ so, I'm hoping to be able to report some good news regarding this issue after that date. In the meantime, I'm hoping ALL of us here online are waching the list of promises made by our new President (during his campaign) to see if and when he comes through on ALL of them. The list of promises he made concerning LGBT rights is quite impressive--- now we need to keep reminding him not to back out on any of them!!!! Pick up a pen and paper today, and write a letter to him at the Whitehouse!!! I often write to him (as well as my state and federal Senators and Congressmen) to keep pestering them to get things done. They NEED to know OUR opinions on these matters!!! The more of us who take the time to actually write them letters (and do it often) -- the better informed they will be on what WE want!!!!

LeeDavid ME -- Will talk more later 0 Jan 10 2009, 12:27 AM EST by LeeDavid

Today is my first day as a member of this "Join the Impact" site! I'm a 54 yr old gay man who is very happy being gay. I never went through those trying times that many gays go through in their lives while trying to accept being gay. I feel like I always knew that I was attracted to men--- and it never bothered me at all. I readily accepted who and what I am (and always have been).
I recently moved to Maui (I love the ocean and the warm balmy weather) from the frozen wasteland of Wisconsin! I worked in the hotel business back on the mainland, and was fortunate to find a similar position with the Kapalua Resort here on Maui! I work in one of the resort's Restaurant/Gift Shops called the Honolua Store. It's a great place to work (and a great place to stop for lunch!!)
If you're ever in the area--- stop in and see me!!! You can find me working every weekday (Monday thru Friday). Come on up and introduce yourself-- I'd love to meet (and chat) with you. You can't miss me.... I'm the guy who is always running throughout the store and eating areas (keeping the whole place a neat, clean, organized place to visit)--- and you'll see my name-tag (Lee)!!
I'm hoping that by getting news from this site (and hopefully from any of YOU out there) that I can get more involved in the political side of all the gay rights issues!!
And, finally---- to EVERYONE out there-- send me a note to say "Hi" (or Aloha) real soon!
LEE
