The best word to describe me is: Passionate (about causes I care about) Also, dedicated, hard-working, very sincere.

Favorite historical movement: Emancipation Proclamation!! Our nation was founded for the right reasons, but we allowed horrible misdeeds to groups of people, beginning immediately with the Native Americans and nearly simultaneously, with the kidnapped (STOLEN, for God's Sake) African men, women, and children who suffered indescribable suffering and ill-treatment at the hands of the so-called European businessmen and the Colonials and Planters starting and growing our nation! "Christians", they called themselves! It is so-o-o telling that many of our greatest and best leaders (?) freed their people upon their decease.

You cannot tell me that they did not know in their "heart of hearts", that buying, owning, selling and trading other human beings was not the most despicable sin imaginable! Rank and file, thousands and perhaps millions, of slave-owners tried to salve their consciences by looking around and telling themselves, "My neighbor, Mr. Smith (or Jones or Jefferson) is a great leader or a good man or a successful plantation owner, and he owns slaves, so I'm OK, too". Our government was complicit and GUILTY! Our greatest President, and a brave and courageous man, had the right stuff to take the first corrective action by defying all the others and using his power to free all slaves!!

Other examples of our nation's errors can be cited. Despite this, I love our nation, because it is a nation that is designed to have the ability to right wrongs! We are in line! I have been in the battle for LGBT equality since 1974.

My inspiration: We have elected a new President, who, in a sense, brings this whole thing with the history of the African American population in this nation full circle!
