The best word to describe me is: community Favorite historical movement: My inspiration: I Joined the Impact because I want to participate in change in my own country, even though I'm not allowed to live there with my Australian wife of 7-1/2 years. If we want our rights we have to stand for a world where there is a place for everyone, and no one is left out. To rebuild our country, we need everyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religious, sexuality or other difference, at the table. I have been living for nearly 9 years in the Netherlands as "love exile". Love a foreigner, leave the country, has been the reality for gays and lesbians during the Bush years. Immigration is federal. Thousands of US citizens like myself have been forced out, taking with us our talents, education paid for with US tax dollars, taking away our ability to love and care for aging parents and other family members. Is that the kind of country we want to be? We need the 1,138 federal rights associated with marriage NOW. Many countries have figured out how to keep their courageous, talented and loving GLBT citizens, and allow us to sponsor a same-sex partner. The Netherlands has recognized married and unmarried partners for more than 30 years (!), regardless of the gender of the partner. It works. Let's have a United States that works too. Imagine what that would be like! The USA is far behind the times. Our new president is committed to full federal rights. We need to demand them now. Join the Impact! Share your favorites
