10 Conversations - 10 Lives ChangedThis is a featured page

Hold ten conversations over the next ten months with someone who doesn't understand the marriage equality struggle.

Plant the seed of change and acceptance.

If each and every one of us has ten conversations, we can change our nation!

The Small World Experiment was a series of experiments conducted by Stanley Milgram, and later recounted in the book "The Tipping Point" as "Six Degrees of Separation". It's about how few steps it takes from one person to another to connect us all.

If you have these ten conversations and are successful with just six of them (manage to get them to see the reasoning) then you and me and all of us could really make an impact.

In the wake of Saturday's historical event, many are still riding the waves of adrenaline and feeling the spirit of change overcome them! We took a conversation that our opponents were hoping to quell and made it louder than anything they have heard before. People who didn't know about Prop 8 before the election, are now fully aware of our government's ability to strip the rights of 18,000 families. This year everyone has heard the chant of "Yes We Can!" A little over one week ago, the world-wide protest over Proposition 8 was not planned, our community was outraged, and our community felt hopeless. Now, only 13 days since Proposition 8 passed, we have shown the nation and the world that we will not give up, we will not be silenced, and our community will RISE. Yes we can and YES WE WILL! We have brought a conversation of hope and equality to a national stage. We have set an example for our loved ones, our neighbors, and our opposition that we cannot ignore. Our community has come together as one in a grassroots, all volunteer, and down right amazing capacity! It is imperative that we do not stop here. We must continue moving forward toward the goal of full equality. We will do this by continuing the conversation.

On November 15th, JoinTheImpact issued you a challenge. The challenge was simple: 10 Conversations - 10 Lives Changed.

We ask that you hold a minimum of 10 conversations over the next 10 months, with someone who doesn't understand our struggle. Plant the seed of change and acceptance in their mind. If each and everyone of us had 10 conversations, we could change our nation!

If you need a way to start the conversation check out "Don't Recognize Marriage." It's a fun and easy way to get the conversation started with familiar faces.

If any of you can find it (I am not sure if it is in print or not) Betty Berzon wrote Setting Them Straight: You Can do Something About Bigobtry and Homophobia in your life.

http://www.amazon.com/Setting-Them-Straight-Something-Homophobia/dp/0452274214

It is a wonderful book with a lot of practical ideas and helpful suggestions for confronting bigotry and homophobia in ones life.

Peace,
Geoffrey
