Maryland is like and not like Massachusetts. Largely Democrat state, Gay marriage rights struggle, gay marriage rallies, talks with legislators about gay marriage, gay marriage hearings in state capital, previous GOP Gov hankering after antigay marriage constitutional amendment.
Similarity ends there. Massachusetts has attained and retained gay marriage, Maryland gay community lost its gay marriage battle in 2007 court case, rallies for gay marriage still a once a year event each February in Annapolis. Unlike Massachusetts and MassEquality, Maryland and Equatity Maryland has no plans for National DOMA Protest Day which I find disturbing as gay marriage would lose a major impediment if the Federal level DOMA or Defense of Marriage Act (making a mockery at our national entry points including US Customs booths in Canadiian airports on Canadian soil of legal MA and CT gay marriages and of gay marriages legal in Spain, Canada, South Africa, Netherlands, Belgium and Norway (gay marriage law there passed in 2008 and in effect in 2009, prohibiting social security benefits for suriving spouse of gay marriage, etc) were to be repealed. If Federal level DOMA were to repealed, gay marriage would likely spread more rapidly throught the USA and the full faith and credi clause in US Constitution stating that marriage and other laws legal in one state need to recognized in other states

Call Gov Martin O'Malley's office and tell him that Maryland needs to treat all families equally under the law.
Call at 410-974-3901 -- sample script: This is Maggie, I live in Baltimore. My family deserves the same rights as your family. Support civil marriage for ALL families. This is Don, I live in Anne Arundel County. State employees deserve equal pay for equal work. Authorize partner benefits for same-sex families. This is Nancy, I live in Harford County. My religious rights should never dictate others' civil rights. Support civil marriage for all families
