LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: make or buy a "Second Class Citizen" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles (battery powered if you'll be huddling inside).
  • Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

I just heard about this National Rally. What a great idea! But I'm traveling tomorrow for work. I won't be in Boise late enough or the destination early enough. RRR. Drop me know if you hear about anything else going on in Boise. I'd love the chance to help out.

Thanks,
A Smith

Just in case it wasn't completely obvious (ergo the no date comment below), the rally will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008 beginning at 11:30 am at Boise City Hall - 150 N Capital Blvd.

I'm helping Nadine to organize this event. I doubt it will last more than an hour. We have several really wonderful speakers lined up, including a father-daughter team that will speak to the issues regarding marriage - both gay and straight. They are father and sister to a gay man here in Boise. Common Ground Chorus will be singing the national anthem to get the rally started and it's likely there will be another musical act at the end: a popular lesbian artist in Boise!

Get the word out to everyone! This rally is about solidarity... it's about being seen and heard from sea to shining sea! Invite parents, siblings, grandparents, straight, gay, bisexual, green, brown or orange... anyone who wants to support marriage equality.

Hi! Thank you for organizing this. I will be in a class until 1 PM. I was wondering how long this might go so that I can hopefully stop by after class. And hopefully, I'll be able to bring a few classmates with me as well. :)
