Melissa Etheridge
Melissa Etheridge
"Singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge is taking an even more drastic approach of expressing her dismay over the passing of the proposition. The openly gay Etheridge, who had hoped to marry partner Tammy Lynn Michaels blogged, “I am taking [Prop 8] to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen." She makes a pretty good point, doesn’t she? Why should she pay the same taxes as citizens who are guaranteed more rights than she is? If Prop 8 holds up, we can’t help but hope that Etheridge goes all the way to court with this one...because it will really put the state of California in one heck of an awkward legal situation..."

Christina Aguilera told MTV News, “Prop 8 is discrimination. I don't understand how people can be so closed-minded and judgmental. [Given Obama's win], this is a time in history of great change and open-mindedness, Why is this any different? Why you would put so much money behind something aimed at stopping people from loving each other and bonding together?"

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger
"As protesters took to the streets for a fifth day, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday expressed hope that the California Supreme Court would overturn Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that outlawed same-sex marriage.

In an interview with CNN, Schwarzenegger also predicted that the 18,000 gay and lesbian couples who have wed already would not see their marriages nullified by the initiative. "It's unfortunate, obviously, but it's not the end," he said about the same-sex marriage ban. "I think that we will again maybe undo that, if the court is willing to do that, and then move forward from there and again lead in that area."
With his favorable comments toward gay marriage, Schwarzenegger's thinking appears to have evolved. In past statements, he has said he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman and he has rejected legislation authorizing same-sex marriage. Yet he also has said he would not care if same-sex marriage were legal, saying he believed that such an important societal issue should be determined by the voters or the courts.

Schwarzenegger publicly opposed Proposition 8, which amends the state Constitution to declare that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."
Yesterday, he urged backers of gay marriage to follow the lesson he learned as a bodybuilder trying to lift weights that at first were too heavy for him. "I learned that you should never, ever give up. . . . They should never give up. They should be on it and on it until they get it done."
The governor's position on the fate of the existing same-sex marriages aligns him with California Attorney General Jerry Brown, who has said he believes the state Supreme Court will uphold existing marriages as valid."

Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt donated $100,000 to fight California’s Proposition 8. “Because no one has the right to deny another their life even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another, and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8".

Brad Pitt has revealed that he and Angelina Jolie won’t even consider getting married until gay marriage is legalized in the US. Brad told Esquire magazine: “Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able.”

Celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson also had something to say about the fact that a proposition dedicated to humane treatment of animals passed, while human marriage rights are not equal in California:
"I guess people care more about farm animals than they do their fellow man, that's really sad to me," Ronson wrote on her MySpace blog. "Yes, I am glad that the chickens will have more room and better conditions as they wait to die, but I just think it's frightening that people show more compassion for tomorrow's dinner than for the chef."

Gary Riotto's Prop 8 Rally Arrest: In His Own Words

"I like thousands of people in Los Angeles last night took to the streets filled with anger, sadness and determination in response to the passing of prop 8 here in CA. I had been crying off and on all day, deeply saddened by how societally acceptable it seems to be to take away my civil rights and the civil rights of my Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender brothers and sisters.

It began as a very contained rally at Santa Monica and San Vicente until large groups of people branched off and started marching down the streets and blocking traffic in major intersections. I must admit I was one of a few initiators in these efforts, but am so happy and proud to report that the group I was with was incredibly peaceful, conscientious and communicative.
The police started showing up, not long after we barricaded a bus with our bodies to help us block the intersection of Santa Monica and La Cienega. It wasn't long at all before a police officer decided to single me out of a crowd of approximately 100 people in order to use me as an example to scare others. He grabbed me by the arm and I peacefully let him lead me to his car. For about 20 minutes the crowd chanted let him go while I sat in the car in the middle of the intersection. At that point they also arrested a lovely 24 year old young man who later became my cellmate for the evening.
The details of the rest of the evening can be shared later. I was fully cooperative with the police and even though they were just doing their job, and mostly doing it well on a very tough evening, some of the police behavior was unwarranted and discriminatory. After we were in jail for a few hours, there were four people at Hollywood and Highland that got a little out of hand and were also arrested. As this was happening things for myself and my new friend became progressively more difficult.
This is not a religous issue, not a personal beliefs issue it is a civil rights issue. Please join us and take a stand. It Feels great!

With thanks, love and faith that one day we will be a united country and all be granted the same civil rights.
– Gary Riotto"

Lovari Free To Love - Anti Prop 8 song 1 Nov 20 2008, 3:40 AM EST by Mokuyobi

Hear the AntiProp 8 song on www.myspace.com/Lovari
President and founder of Our Youth, Rob DeAnthony, contacted a group of LGBTQ supportive artists, and signed them on to work together on recording a song about hate crimes and opposition to Proposition 8, a law which has has been passed that doesn't allow equal rights for same sex marriage, and other serious issues that many refuse to talk about, that our youth within our community face everyday and will continue to face in the future. The goal of this song is to raise awareness on these serious issues, and have the proceeds from this record donated to anti-hate crime and LGBTQ organizations. Our Youth, a non profit organization designed to help GLBTQ youth, The Joey DiPaolo Foundation, a 501C organization designed to help young adults make the transition from childhood into adulthood while coping with the challenges and complications from HIV/AIDS, and the A.N.G.E.L. Initiative, an organization designed to help those that are suffering mental illness, especially the youth. The single, "Free To Love" was written by Lovari, a recording artist / activist who holds the record for the most consecutive Pride Performances in the Tri State area for both 2007 and 2008, as well as for his # 1 radio single "All I Want Is You".The track also features Out Magazine recording artist Scandelle, NY Times featured artist Janifer, out and proud hip hop artist Bryn't, legendary drag entertainer Harmonica Sunbeam, and Geo Vaughn, who was the original inspiration for this project. Produced by Chey de Los and DJ Relentless, "Free To Love" is burning up the airwaves and the club scene all while raising awareness and money for a vital cause.

Mr. Olbermann, you have set an amazing standard for all to follow as they consider their position on gay marriage. I live in Michigan. A state that four years ago denied me and others like me the right to marry. I have been married and am now divorced. Mmmm, how could that be? I was living a heterosexual life and married a woman pregnant with my daughter. My daughter is now 19 years old. I raised her for the first 8 years of her life, along with her mother and then by myself for the last 11 years of her life without her mother. Upon accepting my identify as a gay man and gay father, I divorced. Marriage is between two persons, not there state, country or church. Those that deny acceptance and vote for discrimination are guilty of furthering the likelihood that gay and lesbian persons will live in shame and lead lives that hide who they really are. I can only hope that Keith's message will be heard and understood by enough people to change the hearts of the selfish anti-gay persons and lead to a country that nationally recognized everyones constitutional rights. I do not need laws to approve of whom I love, but I do need and expect laws to protect my rights. I am extremely proud of my daughter for many reasons, but especially because she understands that ALL people deserve respect and it is not her place to judge their choices. I will keep my chin up and look forward to the day that we can all enjoy freedom to be all that we dream.
