CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4TH

On March 5th, the California Supreme Court will be hearing arguments for and against the recently passed Proposition 8.

In over 20 cities across the state of California, candles will light up the streets the evening of March 4th to show solidarity and support for the marriages and benefits at stake in the LGBT community.

To maintain and increase visibility, we are moving this event to Chicago as well. The momentum and activism that has sprung from the blatant discrimination of Prop 8 is fueling the beginnings of a historic period in American history.

When: 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Where: Historic Water Tower - 800 N. Michigan

FREEDOM TO MARRY DAY

Saturday, February 14, Valentine's Day, 11 AM

In March, the California Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in lawsuits challenging Proposition 8. While they rarely admit it, courts can be swayed by public pressure.

We need to keep up the momentum for marriage equality by making this year's Freedom To Marry Day the biggest ever!

We will be protesting outside the Cook County marriage license office, demanding marriage equality for our area and showing solidarity with our California friends.

Please RSVP at the event's facebook page, and invite all your friends.

City Hall
118 N. Clark Street
(between Randolph and Washington)
Blue line to Washington
Come together for a picket line at Chicago City Hall in protest of inequality. Join the LGBT community in their economic boycott and nationwide direct action for marriage equality by picketing for your beliefs.

On December 10th, in unison with "Day Without a Gay" (see jointheimpact.com for more details on this nationally held boycott), there will be a picket line in place outside of city hall. This is a direct representation of our ability to repeatedly come together for a cause that has been laying idle for too long.

Bring your beautiful faces, fabulous signs and plenty of layers to stay warm.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
Across from State St. Macy's : 111 N. State St, Chicago IL.

GOT PHOTOS TO SHARE?
GOT VIDEOS TO SHARE? GOT STORIES TO SHARE?

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: make or buy a "Second Class Citizen" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles (battery powered if you'll be huddling inside).
  • Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

So far, donations will be given to the Night Ministry and The Greater Chicago Food Depository. As more support comes in we will be deciding which other organizations we will be giving to.

Please contact us with any ideas or suggestions. This is about our community, and we want to make sure we are acting in our community's best interest. No voice or contribution is too small.

Bring your candles and open hearts. Lets reach out to those in need.
