I went with my daughter and her friend to old town Fort Collins for a last-minute rally of about 150 people. We had speeches by a minister, a state representative, and two women who were married in CA this summer. We sang "Gentle Angry People" and marched (processed, since we didn't have a marching permit) to the Lambda Center a few blocks away. Lots of great signs ("Will Work for Equality"). My daughter's sign had a wedding cake with two same-sex couples on top and the message "Let them eat cake!" Many people honked and waved as we walked. At the Lambda Center we watched Keith Olbermann's commentary on youtube.
I would have gone to Boulder or Denver if this hadn't been happening closer to home. I'm a mostly-straight ally and PFLAG mom; my daughter is bisexual and her best friend is gay. It felt amazing to be part of something happening nationwide today. |
