I was extremely surprised to see this in my "Local" section on Google News. I wish I could have gone to the hearings today. |

Okay guys, kinda bad news. 414 Federal Street is NOT where marriage licenses are issued - it's the Kent County Levy Court Complex, 555 Bay Road, which is actually on the highway next to the Blue Hen Corporate Center. I went to both places today and confirmed it with a phone call.
This isn't a great place to hold a protest since we'd basically have to stand in the parking lot (which I don't even know if it would be legal for us to do) and watch the traffic on Rt. 13 go by. What do we want to do? I'll post this on the Facebook group too since it seems there's more people over there. |

Do we want to try to do this? As far as I can tell, the place you get marriage licenses in Dover is the Kent County Clerk of the Peace, in room 210 at 414 Federal Street. I'm going to go over there this week and see what the area looks like since I have no idea. (God, you'd never guess I grew up here. I didn't know where city hall was either.) I'm also going to check that it's the right location, since there's some conflicting information on the web, but it's on a site that hasn't been updated in 4 years, so who knows.
I'm working on handouts and promotional fliers again, they'll just need info filled in (is there a nationally shared time for this event or do we get to make up our own?), and I'll bring White Knots as usual. Some of the churches in DE, if we wanted to try getting ministers involved, that I know are at least somewhat gay-friendly are: Newark United Church of Christ Phone: 302-737-4711 Email: info@newarkucc.org Westminster Presbyteran Church, Wilmington 302.654.5214 Head pastor's email: gregjones@wpc.org Associate pastor's email: anne@wpc.org Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth office@epworth-rehoboth.org UU congregations are listed here - http://www.uua.org/aboutus/findcongregation/results.php?state=DE&welcoming_only=true http://www.mccrehoboth.com/ - The MCC in Rehoboth doesn't currently have a pastor but some of their lay ministry may be interested. Contacting the usual media outlets probably couldn't hurt either, even though the DOMA protest wasn't noticed. I'm going to post all the same online info I did before once we get the details finalized as well. |
