Courthouse on the Square, Denton TX
Stonewall Democrats of Denton County and Peace Action Denton are co-sponsoring this event.

We will be gathering signatures to send on an open letter to President-elect Obama, reminding him of his pledge to the LGBT community to repeal DOMA, enact a fully inclusive ENDA law, repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell, enact the Matthew Shepard Act, amend Uniting American Families Act, and confront the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Our goal is 1 million signatures total nationwide at all of these events to deliver to him on his first day in office.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: make or buy a "Second Class Citizen" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles (battery powered if you'll be huddling inside).
  • Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

11/15: Join the Stonewall Democrats of Denton County, Peace Action Denton, and other LGBT and straight supporters for a nationwide protest against California's Proposition 8 in coordination with jointheimpact.com

Saturday November 15, 12:30 PM, Courthouse on the Square, Denton TX.

The community has stood silent for too long, and continued to allow mob rule on our basic civil rights. We should use our time to speak out against CA's Prop 8, and other recent marriage bans in Florida and Arizona. If we are to make change in California, Texas, and the rest of the country, we must come together as a community and say NO MORE!

As the President-Elect Barack Obama said, "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

Yes We Can!
