I'm on a Mac and I can't get WetPaint to let me add a logo to the grid, so I uploaded it as an attachment below called: not_equal_05_400.gif
Simple: sign for inequality with international symbol for NO. 2 colors, inexpensive to reproduce.

I like the one "American Equality" the best. It is simple, STRONG, and indicates a rising above with support and partnership.
Second favorite is equality for all with the flags. Both look the most professional and you want simple. These two rise above the rest. |

Just curious what people think of the designs I uploaded (JoinTheImpact-Logo2.png & JoinTheImpact-Logo3.png). I liked the fist, but felt it needed to reflect more on marriage (2 people) and love (the heart). I did one with just the rainbow fists, and after reading some comments, one with a rainbow fist and an American flag fist.

We should be the last group that has to fight for equal rights in this country. If we could be inclusive and not divisive we can do more than we ever imagined/

My choice is probably the Refuse to Hate vote no on Prop 8. I have concerns about the fist because it evokes (for me at least) the repressive military regime of Perez Molina's "mano duro" or firm hand in Guatemala. Molina ran ads in 2007 showing a graphic, raised, clenched fist, like the ones above. He represented the old guard who had subjected the indigenous Maya to genocide - between 250,000 and a million of them died.
Of course, the raised fist is also tied to the Black Panther Party (many of whom advocated violence) of the late 1960s, but then became associated with Black power in general. It was used earlier by numerous leftists socialist groups including the Spanish Republican forces against Franco. and before that to the Red Army, supporters of Russia's communist government during the Russian Civil War (pre-Stalin, naturally). So, before you choose the logo, think long and hard about what you want it to represent -- what it means-- and what it may represent to the broader population.

i dont suggest using logos w clenched fists. fists are suggestive of violence..of threats. people arent very receptive to threats and violence is certainly frowned upon.

I like the rainbow fist for a few reasons. I think the fist is a sign of power and of determination. It reminds me of the fight for democracy in South Africa ( I was there for 15 years ) where a raised fist was the "symbol" and the cry was AMANDLA (meaning POWER) and peolpe would reply "AWETHU" which means To the People (or Ours). Anyway...it's strong and straight to the point :)

I like the Rainbow Fist best at least so far, it's kind of like this effort being done solely by word of mouth and us working together for a change. For US by US standing up for each other.

It bridges the past (because it's kind of retro-looking) with the future (it's also hip and modern).
