Second Avenue Durango, CO  | We will be protesting at the La Plata county courthouse on January 10th at 11:30. This is held to protest the Defense of Marriage act and to collect signatures. Here is the info: During his campaign, Obama wrote an "Open Letter to the GLBT Community:" http://obama.3cdn.net/36ddd2f5daac41cb21_rym6bxaax.pdf He made several key promises to our community. Now, we are gathering signatures for an Open Letter in response: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/ie%2BzftVKmp3UMuMQTk1A4Q%3D%3D18018 We are simply calling on him (politely and respectfully) to keep the very specific promises that he made to our community. Whether or not you find these specific issues to be the most important, please help with this action because they represent several significant steps in the right direction. Also, they make it clear that our community expects Obama to keep his campaign promises! This is not just a local thing- it is being coordinated NATIONWIDE and all the signature sheets will be combined and hand-delivered to Obama at the White House on his first day in office. This has the potential to be one of the most effective and exciting actions, yet! What can YOU do? Get involved: (1) Come to the protest and SIGN the letter- it must be on the actual signature sheet, not just an online/email signature (2) VOLUNTEER to be a leader to get lots of signatures! Good opportunities would be at events you attend, church, dinners, coffee groups, etc. THE GOAL IS 1 Million signatures nationally. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you will be coming the the protest. We had a great turnout at our first one in November and even got our picture in the paper! We only had four (very cold) people at the December protest, so I'm hoping more can make it to this one. Thanks, Robyn

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM WHAT IS IT? On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
