Marriage Equality USA chapters and member organizations are eager to hear from you and get your help. In those cities where an MEUSA does not exist, we ask that JTI organizers step up (once again) and help us bring this event to their city for the first time. MEUSA has provided us with a national toolkit (below) which will help us ensure that this event gets the attention it deserves as we join forces for one large impact!

Here's how to organize a Freedom to Marry Day Event

  1. Learn more about Freedom to Marry Day
  2. Check the official MEUSA event page to find out if there is an event planned in your city. If there is not an event planned:
  3. Visit your city page find out if an event has already been planned. If not, do the following:
    1. Copy and paste the template (found(found here)here) on your city page
    2. Fill in the info in italics, and add information about your event. It's a good idea to include as much of a description as possible so people know what volunteers you need, what to bring with them and how to help make your event a success
    3. Visit your state page and add a link to your city event page
  4. Check out the tool kit below to find useful info, customizable press releases and fliers, and more.

Other notes:

As always- if there are reasons that this event may need modification in your city feel free to let us know. We have volunteers to handle questions for specific regions (known as Regional Liaisons). You can find your city's Regional Liaison here.

For example- states that have marriage rights already are holding more of celebrations of the rights they do have, and some cities are opting not to have events if this domonstration could negatively affect legislation that is being introduced.

Note: Some cities have Marriage Counters that are closed on 2/12. These cities can feel free to hold their event on 2/13 or 2/14
