What can you do to support marriage equality NOW? Speak to at least three people you know whether it be a friend, relative, or acquaintance from California. Keep up the conversation for months and don't give up. Please note that this event is just a plan. Grassroots protests and rallies won't begin probably until the start of the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, which is next year. But it never hurts to start grassroots conversations NOW and begin gathering supporters when the event comes. Take care! ~ADD YOUR UPDATES! |

"Win or lose, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community & our allies must respond immediately to the forthcoming California Supreme Court decision on whether to invalidate Proposition 8...We've seen a tremendous outpouring from LGBT and allied individuals and organizations who wanted to join together in unity the night of the decision regardless of the outcome."The site that organizers have launched, Day of Decision, is up and running and offers people the opportunity to sign up to host a "Day of Decision" rally in their community. There are sample downloadable posters, flyers, and more to help folks organize locally to respond to a Court decision that will clearly have national implications. Towleroad already lists that a few organizations have signed on as co-sponsors, including Join the Impact, Centerlink, (the National Association of LGBT Community centers), and Metropolitan Community Churches.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a page on the site for Fremont. The Yes on 8 signs appeared to far outnumber the No on 8 signs around town, so I wasn't sure if there was much support for our cause here. My partner & I will most likely attend one of the bigger rallies around the Bay on Saturday, but would like to help make more of an impact here in Fremont going forward. We did try to attend a meeting for a group here in Fremont promoting awareness and a hate-free community...but no one else showed up! It was disappointing, but not a huge surprise. I think there are more of us out there...we just tend to leave the city limits rather than make ourselves visible here at home. Time to change all that! Anyone else out there hear what I'm saying?!
