I bet business owners have several great ideas on how they can help. also see item c Any amount of help is welcome. It doesn't have to be anything high tech or sophisticated. Sending me an email like this would be awesome: "Hey Cole, I don't have a lot of time but I will send out emails and tell all my friends and family about the Equality Food Drive. So keep me informed and I'll help spread the word!" Spreading the word is vital to our success so please do not underestimate how important you are to our cause. Our first step is to get organized. Toward that end, I will will schedule an evening for us to meet if need be. We will also use email, text, Facebook, etc. to communicate and coordinate. | Q: Is this a national effort? A: Yes. Please see the National Food Drive for Equality page Q: Why a national LGBT (&Allies) Food Drive for Equality? A: See the answer here on Impact Humboldt Blog. Q: Do I have to be gay or lesbian to help? A: No, in fact our hope is that 50% of the volunteers for the food drive will be allies (people who do not identify themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer). ~~~~~ Q: What is the relationship between this Equality Food Drive and the Light Up The Night (LUTN) event on December 20? A: The last day of the Food Drive is December 20.* That night we will gather at the Bayshore Mall for a peaceful, candlelight vigil. Visit the National Food Drive page and the National LUTN page for general information. *As originally envisioned, December 20 would be the day all the food would be collected and transported to the Food For People food bank. However, we were told that saving the food up wouldn't be the most helpful plan for the food bank. So food will be tracked and given to the food back possibly before the 20th and, most importantly, to our fellow citizens who need the food. |
