Fairness Works is a Teach In campaign to educate people on pieces of legislation that affect the LGBTQ community in the workplace, why they are necessary and what can be done to get them passed. The Teach Ins will focus on 3 separate pieces of legislation that are all designed to provide a more equal workplace and provide legal protections against discrimination: The Employee Non-Discrimination Act, The Employee Free Choice Act & the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Don't see your city represented? Use the form in the right column to sign up as an organizer in your city (more info about organizers below).

What will they look like?
Teach Ins will be structured with the following elements:

  1. Explanation of the legislation and important facts & statistics pertaining to its need
  2. People telling personal stories about why they need the legislation with a goal of local Military & Transgender people represented. Videos will be provided of stories as well for those who may need them to reach this goal.
  3. Teaching and investing attendees in helping to solve the problem and giving immediate ways to get involved as well as more long term solutions.

Organizers will be provided with a toolkit including: a Power Point of the information they’ll need, sample press release, suggested venues and other helpful information to make their event a success. The toolkit will be designed so organizers can modify the information for whatever venue, size, or audience their event will have.

The Teach-Ins will be held nationwide in a decentralized manner where anyone can sign up to organize. As with all Join The Impact events organizers are encouraged to think about appropriate venue for their local needs. Teach-Ins can be organized as small as a presentation to your book club or sports team, and as grand as a panel of speakers in a large hall. A list of ideas to choose from for ways to use the Teach-In and possible free venues to choose from including Faith based institutions, schools, Central labor councils, etc. This allows that many Teach-Ins could be organized in a city ranging from small to large depending on target audience. Both people who are members of the LGBT & allied communities & those who would not support the legislation without a greater understanding need to learn about discrimination & how it affects us.
