fairness_works_logoFairness does work. Unfortunately millions are not protected from unfair job termination because of sexual orientation or gender identity. Join the Impact hopes to change the landscape by helping pass three important pieces of legislation, the Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA) the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT), and the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA).The American Dream is a fundamental promise to each and every citizen that they have the opportunity to advance beyond their current condition to a better life rich with opportunity. The Dream is an ideal our country continues to strive for but does not always fulfill. For some gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people the Dream is challenged by workplace discrimination and early termination based solely on sexual orientation and gender identity.Yesterday, June 30, Lt. Dan Choi who has worked bravely for his country as a mission critical soldier with Arabic language skills, was fired because he publicly acknowledged he is gay. This injustice must end now! We have to fight to end institutionalized discrimination and homophobia, and education is part of that fight.

It is time for America to wake up, to learn, and to urge Congress to end decades of discrimination right now! Here’s how YOU can help. A committee of Join the Impact volunteers developed a set of tools for you to use to teach your friends, families, and neighbors about ENDA, EFCA, and the repeal of DADT. These tools will help you explain workforce discrimination, its impact on our culture, our military, and our families. Knowledge is power, and together we will focus our power on our Representatives during the August recess. To learn more and to sign-up to host a Fairness Works American Dream-In, simply go tohttp://jointheimpact.wetpaint.com/to sign up.You can also help spread the word on facebook!Your help is vital to the success of this program. Please volunteer, so together we can make an impact!

Between now and Friday, June 5, 2009 Day of Decision Rally Louisville
WE MUST BE READY! If the court rules to only uphold the existing same sex marriages, but allows the rest of Prop 8 stand, it will not be a victory. If discrimination is written back into the California Constitution, we must go back to the streets.

The day before the ruling, the court will tell our plaintiffs that their decision will be announced the next day, and so we'll have a final 24 hours to Facebook, email etc. our supporters for the event the following night. So invite your friends NOW, start emailing NOW, and get your phone list in order NOW, so that when we get the 24-hour warning we are ready.

Please RSVP yes to this event and invite your friends on facebook, so that this time, we are ready to Protest or Celebrate the same day the CA Supreme Court rules. This time, we will not sit passively by. We will be prepared.

NATIONAL EVENT / KENTUCKY EVENT
On National Freedom to Marry Day, Thursday, February 12, 2009, at local marriage counters in cities all over the country, same-sex couples will request marriage licenses at their local County Clerk's Offices to raise awareness of the harms and impact that the inability to marry causes on their families. This national event is hosted yearly by Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA) and this year they have asked Join the Impact for our help to make this their largest Marriage Counter Action yet! .:more:. (from Join the Impact)

"Marriage Equality USA started the Marriage Counter Action/Get Engaged for Marriage Equality in 2001. This year, we invited Join the Impact to join us, and we are very excited to be working with them and look forward to a large turnout. We do this annual direct action during Freedom to Marry week to make marriage discrimination visible, it forces our local clerks to have to look us in the eye, see our children, and enforce a discriminatory and unjust law at their counter – it moves everyone who witnesses this sad, but powerful event and gives us the opportunity to tell our stories and show that we live in every community and want to honor and protect our families like everyone else." - Jordan Palmer, Vice President of Development & Organizational Relationships for Marriage Equality USA.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Please help us lend support to Marriage Equality USA as we draw national attention to the many committed couples who are not afforded the right to marry. We ask that JTI organizers reach out to their local chapters and member organizations and offer support in making this event a success!

This is a fantastic idea. DADT is the very thing that ENDA wants to prevent, and EFCA helps to ensure fairness in the workplace. Who wants to help organize?

Will anyone be organizing a protest in Frankfort (state capital)? Do these events in Lex and Lou have actual coordinators? I'm lucky to have heard about this at all.
