LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: make or buy a "Second Class Citizen" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles (battery powered if you'll be huddling inside).
  • Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

A peaceful gathering of like minded citizens that believe in fairness and equality for all. Demonstrating our outrage & disappointment at the passing of Amendment 2 in Fl. & Prop. 8 in CA. Bring your own signs.

Lots of folks have been looking for a way to show their support & solidarity since Nov. 4th. Joining in with events across the entire country is a fabulous start!

Spread the word far and wide.
In front of Lake Worth City Hall (7 N. Dixie Hwy. L.W., Fl. 33460) on November 15th at 1:30pm EST.

Our community WILL take to the streets and speak out against Proposition 8, Amendment 2 and all of the other pro-equality losses that we have faced in our lifetimes, in our parents’ lifetimes, and for many
generations before us. WE CAN’T DO THIS ALONE! WE NEED YOUR
HELP! We need organizers in every major city to work with us and
get out the protest! I know you’re all tired from all of the work
you’ve done for this great election year, but I’m asking for one more
push! Let the country hear our voices together. Let them
see that we are a strong, adamant, and powerful community that deserves
equal rights, and CAN’T BE DEFEATED!

Show up!!!
Be seen!!!
Be heard!!!

If you have questions, I'll be checking this site daily.

CathyJames DEMONSTRATION & CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AT FLORIDA GOVERNOR'S WEDDING 0 Dec 10 2008, 2:40 PM EST by CathyJames
Thread started: Dec 10 2008, 2:40 PM EST  Watch
ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Impact-Florida will hold a peaceful and respectful demonstration and candlelight vigil outside of Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Carole Rome's wedding and reception.

Governor Crist first stated he believed in a "Live and Let Live" attitude when speaking about Amendment 2. However, he then became an outspoken proponent of Amendment 2, which passed by a margin of only 1.9%. The vague and ambiguous wording of this amendment could go much further than promised. It could adversely effect domestic partners benefits of both heterosexual and gay Floridians.

I am not gay; however, I will be there and I will be taking my two sons with me. It is so important to me that we teach our children the true meaning of love. I hope other straight people and LOTS of children show up so that maybe the next generation will learn what ours has not been taught, acceptance.
