Invite as many people as you can.
Bring homemade protest signs and accessories. Buy products (yard signs, bumper stickers, banners, etc.) and donate to the 'California Marriage Equality Act' ballot campaign.
Have refreshments: Bottled water, snacks, etc.

Remember: Please be respectful and civil with people who may disagree with you. Have police authorities with you during the protest/rally. This is to help keep civility and stability.
California has a huge diverse population and its up to this ballot initiative campaign to reach out and speak up for the Golden State's diversity.

What can you do to support marriage equality NOW? Speak to at least three people you know whether it be a friend, relative, or acquaintance from California. Keep up the conversation for months and don't give up.

Please note that this event is just a plan. Grassroots protests and rallies won't begin probably until the start of the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, which is next year.
But it never hurts to start grassroots conversations NOW and begin gathering supporters when the event comes. Take care!

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: make or buy a "Second Class Citizen" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles (battery powered if you'll be huddling inside).
  • Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

Cinemark at the Pike: 99 S. Pine Ave, Long Beach I am sure you have all heard of Cinemark by now. This is an opportunity for them to (very peacefully) hear about you.

This is a unity rally to raise awareness of how our LGBT dollars are spent.

Should be a big one, this is on a Friday night December 12th at 7:00 PM, on our home turf of Long Beach...and we all know the pike. Should be a festive atmosphere and a fully supportive community.

Please come join us, bring something warm to wear, and something hot to drink, this event is taking place rain or shine.

We are becoming known for our open, friendly atmosphere, our sidewalk chalk commemorations, as well as our arts and crafts activities for kids. This is a child friendly event.

We also have everything you could want or need to support Lambda Legal at the event.

Long Beach - WKS (El Pollo Loco) Rally

Saturday November22, 2008 in Lakewood, CA.

Organized by The 8 Accountability Project, an open, community-edited space for coordinating regional and often very local action on 8.

Rallies usually center on a major company that may have indirectly used GLBTQ dollars to take away our civil rights.

As such, these are visible rallies at various businesses, where we raise awareness of how and where GLBTQ dollars are spent.

We often have sidewalk artist come and commemeorate the event and leave a temporary memory of where we have been with children's sidewalk chalk.

We hope you can come and join us.

The site crawls as it loads all the old information. It is also confusing as a current title displays with an old event.

I am trying to read and share information and this really slows it down.

This is just a please. I know people can take such suggestions badly.

Shield up for the flames. :)

2008YesWeCAN Today's Protest Rally! 1 Nov 15 2008, 6:25 PM EST by Jen.D.

What was that?

I'd be interested in hearing from you.

I just responded to a forum on the Join The Impact site, under the title The Protest to Nowhere, with the following message:

I couldn't agree more!

Thank You L.W. Smith. - I just got back and wanted first to see what others were saying about their experience at today's event. All the hours, energy, & money I personally spent in preparation for what? - To be condescendingly spoke to the obviously preconceived agenda message: Peacefully demonstrate, with love & harmony for everyone. (In other words - Don't Make Waves. How dumb do they think we are to talk to us like we are in kindergarten! I found it offensive & embarrassed by my city officials using this tactic.

Just state your agenda- No Violence!. Fine, I agree. Now how are we going to fight this issue? - But No, nowhere was the word Fight used. Instead, we were treated to a 60's Love-In. Complete with music & prayer. I didn't see any broadcast cameras; we were hidden off the street sequestered in a courtyard in front of an empty city hall on a weekend.

I want to know who the architect behind this? Is it here, my city officials, or the YES On 8 proponents? -

If you know contact me at ddginc@me.com. Rather than give up, let’s fix this or create an effort more to our liking.

I’m contacting my city newspaper to share my experience.
