| Cody Olson Chairman- Students for Equal Marriage crolson2@wisc.edu 254-833-4375 Madison, WI | 6:00 p.m. Library Mall State Street-- Madison, WI | We will be marching for marriage equality on the day after Iowa marries their first gay couples. We will be marching to the capitol and demanding that the State Supreme Court overturn the marriage amendment based on its unconstitutionality. Come be apart of this march. Last November, we had over 400 people. We need to make this event much bigger. Invite everyone you know. Bring signs, banners, posters, people. We will have a speaker at the beginning of the rally and at the end of it as well. We need to show our government that we are not going away. We will fight for our equality and this problem is not just going to be swept under the rug. |
| LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM WHAT IS IT? On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.

| <if this is not filled in, we need organizers! add your info below if you are interested> | Organizing is easy, but if you don't have an organizer in your city, get a group of 5-10 friends together, print out the Light Up the Night Holiday Cards, and head to your local mall and start passing them out. Don't forget to keep count of how many cards you passed out. There will be a place to report the numbers soon! | ||||

I can respect that you want to have a "peaceful" vigil and many of the candle light vigils I've been on are very "quiet" and maybe that's just how they are done...but what I don't get is why chanting or even being loud (not necessarily at this event) is considered not being peaceful. Loud and proud is NOT a violent act. Being assertive about your rights is NOT being violent. Just want to make that point because I've been at "silent' protests and they are just that "silent"...no one has to listen and few do. I hope the t-shirts can be read from afar.
