The lead organizers of the protests contacted all the local TV stations (Channels 2, 11, and 13 all had reports), the mainstream newspapers (the Sun had story buried deep and without local pictures), and the gay community press. Coverage is determined by the outlets themselves. If you look at the coverage that day, the arrest of Councilman Brown's killers was a bigger draw unfortunately. However, we must remember that this whole protest was put together in 5 days! How incredible is it that so many people came out in Baltimore with a threat of rain.

If you ask me, the story should have been about how the GLBTQ community and our gay allies in the straight community all came together not because of one or multiple organizations; they came together because of a cause. That is the historical story that should be told.

The protest was great and all the stories told were amazing. We also had a great diversity of speakers, planned and spontaneous: white, African-American, Latino, gay, straight, men, women, religious leaders, couples. Baltimore should be proud that our protest was such a communal meeting which became about small stories and victories than about shear hordes.
