Freedom to Marry
ACTION ITEM: HELP US DECIDE ON FUTURE JTI EVENTS

We need your help! When JTI began, it was simply a blog post asking people to come together on a national level to join in one united voice against Proposition 8. In that first week, a great deal of things were asked of JTI, one of which was a 3 month calendar. We put together the calendar as fast as we could and were not aware of the months of learning that laid before us. Now, JTI is a little over 2 months old and we want to make the most out of it. From now on, we need YOU to help us plan what to do next. Light Up the Night was a success because one of our members suggested the idea. Since then, we have had many suggestions come our way and we want our community to have a say in what happens next, what our goals should be, and how we want to accomplish these goals. Share your ideas

SHARE YOUR SUCCESS FROM THE JANUARY 10th DOMA PROTEST AND SIGNATURE DRIVE
On January 10th, 100 cities from around the country came out in protest of the Defense of Marriage Act. Hundreds of other cities organized aggressive signature drives to help us get 1 million signatures on the Open Letter to Barack Obama. As we continue to tally the signatures, we need your help to continue our visibility and show the world our success!

Please join us in the following:

1. Mail your signature sheets if you have not yet to Join The Impact PO Box 141491 Columbus, OH 43214
2. Share your photos
3. Report the number of signatures you collected

dusty(rob) Dec 10 - Day without a gay event - NEED HELP - PLEASE POST COMMENTS 1 Dec 2 2008, 11:18 PM EST by dusty(rob)

I am hoping that our maui protest group would participate in this event as described on the jti homepage.

it seems that a good activity would be to have a "party" or picnic in order to better get to know one another. perhaps a potluck gathering in a centrally located park or someone's home? i would consider offering my home in waikulu, if that is what we decide to do because most of us don't even know one-another, or have fallen out of touch over the years, although jti recommends community service, which is a valuable way of putting our gay "faces" out in the community in a visible way.

what ever we decide to do - can we post the info. and details right here the way the info. about the last event is displayed? i could put up a map with directions/communication/etc. in order to use an already established mechanism? or do we need something a little more private where we can post our more personal information such as phone numbers and addresses?

please post any ideas or comments on the matter.

dec. 20, we are to organize a silent candelight vigil at a major shopping center while wearing t-shirts saying "2nd class citizen." (should it be a queen kaahumanu center from 6:00 - 8:00 pm?)

jan. 10 is the next sign-waiving demonstration, similar to 11/15 - but should at least double in size.

please keep in touch with the jti homepage for main ideas of major events - i can use my yahoo list to contact you guys, and anyone can post here. is that enough or do we need a facebook page? facebook would take me some time to put together because i am not familiar with using it. - any suggestions are welcome.

aloha,

rob

ps - we can all join in the postcard campaign independently.

We do not have a city building in Maui - but the government buildings are at the corner of High Street Main Street in the town of Wailuku. That is where we should begin gathering from 8:00 to 8:30. Let's bring ice chests with cold drinks. there is a McDonalds right there for food and restrooms.
