Keep up the conversation for months and don't give up. Please note that this event is just a plan. Grassroots protests and rallies won't begin probably until the start of the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, which is next year. But it never hurts to start grassroots conversations NOW and begin gathering supporters when the event comes. Take care! ~ADD YOUR UPDATES! |

| STILL NEED AN ORGANIZER | Organizing is easy, but if you don't have an organizer in your city, get a group of 5-10 friends together, print out the Light Up the Night Holiday Cards, and head to your local mall and start passing them out. Don't forget to keep count of how many cards you passed out. There will be a place to report the numbers soon! | ||||

| Protest Info | Address & Map* | Notes & Updates |
| City: Merced Time: 10:30 am - noon Organizer: Christina Borges (PFLAG) Contact info: overtherainbow6478@yahoo.com | Veterans Park: M St and 21st St, Merced (map removed to improve page load) | We encourage supporters who want to make their voice heard about Proposition 8 to participate, but also want to offer some helpful guidelines on how to maximize our presence at the rally and to avoid some of the unfortunate events that happened at other Proposition 8 protests on the west coast during the past weekend. If you plan to attend, we ask that you consider: - Using handmade signs that convey our message of acceptance for everyone. Phrases such as "I Love My Gay Son," "Respect for Every Family," or "I Love My Children Just the Way They Are" can be enormously powerful and resonate well with many different audiences. We encourage you to be creative, and inspirational with your signage at the protest. - We ask that you demonstrate values of inclusion, embrace, and respect for diversity. We have all been troubled by recent protests where several African American and Latino allies have reported being the subject of harassment and taunts. We want to build bridges, grow our coalition and open doors. And, we want to be careful not to *ex*clude anyone who may be a potential ally in the future. - If you are approached by the media during a protest, remember to share your personal stories, but please refrain from talking about those who may have voted against us on November 4. It is important to be forward-looking, and to focus our public remarks on our families, why we need our neighbors to stand with us against measures like Proposition 8 and how we want to welcome new allies to our movement for equality. Make your story to the media personal, not political, and speak from the heart. Thank you and we hope to see you there. Let's show Merced how we feel about the passage of Proposition 8.
