Mission Statement

JoinTheImpact.com Mission Statement

In an effort to make a positive impact in the lives of our community, our allies, and even our opposition, JoinTheImpact.com emerged. Our movement seeks to encourage the LGBTQ community not to look towards the past and place blame, but instead to look forward at what needs to be done now to achieve one goal: Full equality for ALL. We stand for reaching out across all communities. We do not stand for bigotry, for scapegoating, or using anger as our driving force. Our mission is to encourage our community to engage our opposition in a conversation about full equality and to do this with respect, dignity, and an attitude of outreach and education.

JoinTheImpact, as an entity, will not encourage divisiveness, violence, or disrespect of others and we do not approve of this. We do not stand for pointing the finger at one group and placing blame. The LGBTQ community comes in all different colors, creeds, religious beliefs, and political parties. If we allow ourselves to place blame on one community or another, then we are no better than those who oppose us. We will not pit one community against another.

At JoinTheImpact, we are all inclusive. As such, we will continue to encourage debate from all sides of the conversation provided it is civil and respectful. We will encourage our community to not let anger steer the conversation, but with an understanding that anger is a human reaction and we hope that it can be used as a catalyst toward positive change.

Finally, we stand for national unity in the face of opposing forces that have steered the conversation into a state by state issue. We will celebrate our state by state wins, but work as one large entity to help gain these wins and will unite in the conversation against us to plant the seed of change and community.

Sincerely,

The JoinTheImpact Team

I'm a subscriber and an active reader of Automobile Magazine. I will continue to subscribe to the magazine and encourage other car enthusiasts to do the same, but I think the derogatory use of gay is unacceptable. The January 2009 magazine has the following for the letter of the month:

Seeing the stock values of GM and Ford plummet can only leave me speculating why both companies have waited so long to bring over their economical and, dare I say, good-looking European models. Can seemingly continuous "employee discount deals" really keep a car company from falling into the depths of bankruptcy? Are the majority of American car buyers waiting until 2010 to accept the fact that small, economical, versatile cars from Europe with good driving dynamics aren't "gay"? Now seems like the logical time to make a comeback against companies like Honda and Volkswagen in the American small-car market. I won't even both to ask about diesel, since most people are afraid to use "weird pump" at U.S. gas stations (unless by accident).

I don't know if anyone else is offended by the use of "gay" in this, but I'm tired of gay being used in a derogatory way. I wrote a letter to automobile magazine letting them know that this bothers me and that I think it is inappropriate. If you feel the same, I encourage you to send them an email at letter@automobilemag.com

I do agree with some of what Sean Black had to say, but the use of gay, I think is offensive.

Have a Great Day!

I received the following email from HRC today. Please take a moment to read and respond to the TV station to let them know how you feel about this.

This Saturday – unless we act right now – a Michigan TV station will air a one-hour anti-LGBT propaganda piece designed to "reveal the truth about the radical homosexual agenda."

The ultra-right wing American Family Association (AFA) says it produced the 60-minute program to air nation-wide.

We need thousands of people to speak out IMMEDIATELY against this paid campaign of lies before the program airs on WOOD-TV, the local NBC station in Grand Rapids, MI.

Make no mistake: this is the opening salvo in a coming battle over pro-equality legislation.

Just as we are on the cusp of historic change – a federal hate crimes law, protections for LGBT workers against job discrimination – extremist groups like the AFA are launching a well-funded national campaign of hatred and fear to halt our progress.

This program recycles familiar lies: that hate crime laws will "do away with our freedom of speech," or that pastors will be "criminalized for sharing the love of Jesus Christ." (In fact, the proposed federal hate crimes law explicitly states that it only applies to violent acts – not speech.)

The "anchor" of this faux-news program, which may have already aired in smaller markets, is controversial talk show host Janet Parshall, who in 2006 suggested Matthew Shepard's lifestyle was responsible for his murder and called gay adoption "state-sanctioned child abuse."

We cannot let this bigotry go unanswered. We can't let it scare voters, force LGBT people back into a place of shame and hiding, or create an atmosphere of intolerance or hate.

I have family members who are lesbians and I love them. I am wondering what the latest is on multi-sex marriages and if it is finally gonna stay or did they remove the right again? I am involved in many important issues. Labor, Multisex, Politcal and others. I am tired of our government who no longer listens or remembers who they are REALLY suppose to work for. I live in Santa Rosa, CA USA For some reason I keep missing the sign right in my face when it comes to the Pride Parades. Everyone deserves independence and no one should be divided because of Religion, Race, Sex....do I really need to go on? LOL I recently lost a lesbian second cousin named Lois, she died of cancer. I will not stand by while people degrade peoples rights. Power to EVERYONE!!
Do you find this valuable?
