OK, MANY of us participated and donated time and effort in this campaign. Can someone please tell us how we did??? Looking at the COUNT page that is tallying our submissions, there is no way that we even got close to the 1 million that was our target. It looks like we got closer to 10,000 ..... if that is true, this is very sad indeed and once again shows how complacent our community is. There has been no Media coverage of this either -- narely a mention. Are we trying to do TOO MUCH TOO SOON ... to the point of "there they go again" ??? Very frustrating, sorrt to say... IMHO.

Hello From Sunny San Diego!
Just 2 more days until the DOMA Marches & Rallies! I'm hoping to hear some great suggestions for DOMA-specific and perhaps Obama-specific chants for the marches. So far we've got: HEY-HEY / HO-HO / DO-MA'S GOT-TO-GO. Of course, we've got the old stand-by's: GAY-STRAIGHT-BLACK-WHITE / MARRIAGE-IS-A-CIVIL-RIGHT WHAT DO WE WANT? (EQUAL RIGHTS!), WHEN DO WE WANT THEM? (NOW!) SEP-A-RATE CHURCH-AND-STATE Any other DOMA-specific ideas? Keep it positive! : ) Nasli Administrative Chair San Diego Equality Campaign http://www.sdequalitynow.com

The second session of voting is open at Change.org. This session is a combination of the top three answers (over 250,000 votes) from 30 categories in a previous round. This is the last voting event and it will last until the 15th. The group will present the top 10 ideas to Obama the next day. The group says the also plan to join up with their affiliate non-profit groups on the site to create initiatives to directly influence legislation on all top ten ideas.
Currently in place at number 5 is a request for LGBT marriage equality legislation http://www.change.org/ideas/view/pass_marriage_equality_rights_for_lgbt_couples_nationwide and a more specific DOMA reepal questions is also on the board, but with many fewer votes: http://www.change.org/ideas/view/repeal_doma_defense_of_marriage_act

This does not seem to be a fully organized event. For it to be successful; it needs to be better presented, more convieniently made so we can email signatures to the the appropriate place --also addresses need to be given both physical and email.

There is a serious problem right now, the problem is the design of jointheimpact's website. It is too complicated to use, to understand, to join any events, or to organize them at all. This movement means a lot to a lot of people for it to fall flat on its head from such a simple fix. The homepage of this site should be simplified to 3 sections: Past Events - Current Event - Future Events ( with a link to the map of states to click on, then from that your city- for each separate event). If this is not one, I fear we will continue to lose numbers, as I saw first hand 2 days ago in nyc at the LUTN rally/march. In nyc, I think we can muster out more than just a couple hundred people out of the millions that live there! I came 200 miles to participate in this event, because there was none planned for my area, I intend to plan for the DOMA, but I know in my area its hard enough to get anyone to an event, let alone after using this poorly designed site. The fate of our movement rests in organizing a community that is hard to organize on normal circumstances, we have our chance now, and we are to this point blowing it. To the webmaster, you must simplify this site, starting at the homepage. Please e-mail me, I can discuss ideas with you if you would like: Brad.Pacalis@gmail.com

Hi Everyone -
Just fyi, in Boston we have had great success passing out jan 10th flyers at Milk showings. People have been really receptive, and we are able to reach an audience outside the normal LGBT mailing lists. This is especially true now that the movie has been released on a wider scale and more straight allies are going to the show. Lisa |

Hi organizers,
Our Boston group JointheImpactMA is really committed to making the January 10th protest the BIGGEST one yet! Here are links to the flyers that we have developed. Please feel free to use & edit them to fit your needs. http://www.mit.edu/~lmarshal/national_doma_flyer.pdf http://www.mit.edu/~lmarshal/national_doma_flyer_4pane.pdf We highly suggest that groups follow the model of the November 15th protest - simultaneous protests across the nation! 1:30 PM - Eastern time 12:30 PM - Central Time 11:30 AM - Mountain Time 10:30 AM - Pacific Time ...etc. You may want to plan to start your protest outside at your local City Hall & then march somewhere warm in order to have speeches and have action tables set-up. We suggest asking churches in the area to donate their space for the event. In solidarity, Kate Leslie www.jointheimpactMA.com

We really need this event to be linked to from the main page, otherwise people aren't going to have enough time to get organized and hold rallies as big, if not bigger, than Nov. 15th. Please, link to it from the homepage so that organizaers can start signing up!

It's not clear from the post if there's going to be a rally or not. Rallies are important, and will have the visibility effect that just having a letter doesn't have.
And if you want people to get to work on organizing rallies, it'd be good to get as much information about what you wanted done as possible. I know there was discussion of having rallies at state capitols. Is that still on, or no? Because if it's part of the plan, we're going to need as much time to get organized as possible.
