First, much thanks to all who are organizing and participating in this event. But I thought that the intention for this event on the 20th was to be very visible in high-pedestrian-traffic commercial centers, like outdoor shopping malls, during peak holiday shopping hours, and I wonder how much impact we will have standing along the side of the road around Lake Merritt. Will anyone even be able to read our shirts? How will anyone know who we are and why we are there if we can't talk to them? I assumed that the event on the 20th would be in some place like on the sidewalks in front of the stores in the Emery Bay shopping Center, or some similar place that gets us up close and personal with the public. For example, the event in SF is at Union Square.
Maybe we could cover both? Hold a vigil at Lake Merrit starting at 5 PM, and head over to Emery Bay at, say 6 PM or 7 PM to hold a vigil in front of the holiday shoppers? |

The Cockadoodle Café in Old Oakland is collecting canned good for the National Food Drive for Equality. The canned goods will be given to Sheryl at the LUTN demonstration on December 20th.
If you’re having brunch this weekend, consider the Cockadoodle Café. It’s lesbian owned and operated and the food’s great! Bring a jar of peanut butter or a few cans of tomato soup as the owner has placed the collection box in her front window. The National Food Drive for Equality is a unique opportunity to show all of America our goodwill and generosity. The more food we donate, the greater our impact. Think of each can as one vote. If a million people each donate one can of tomato soup – that’s one million cans of soup! What if we each donated two cans? Maybe three? We could fill food banks all over the nation with charity from the GLBT community. The Cockadoodle Cafe 719 Washington St (near the corner of 7th and Washington) Oakland, CA 94611 |
