Just want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. It appears that we are to send in only signed signature pages. Correct?
Thanks in advance - janice

Got 10 sheets. Can a.) all the sheets be attached to one letter, or b.) do you require one sheet per letter? Hope it's the former. What say you?

what happened to the protest poster of Obama with the bubble saying: I support repealing the Federal etc etc. We're using that image tomorrow at the UCC Church. It was on your website a few days ago.

When did the signature page change? Where did we get informed that it changed?
I've got a bunch of signatures on the original form. Are they useless now? I sent the original links out weeks ago. This is crazy!

I could collect a trillion signatures in SF, but I have only 3 days and no ink in my printer. This issue is more important than the deadline. Why did we just get this close to the deadline?

My only concern is that this letter is missing a key item from Obama's Civil Rights agenda that was posted on this site which stated his administration's intention to create a Federal Civil Union. I thought that this would be a very important thing to list here. While I myself would support federal civil unions if and only if they confer the same rights as marriage for same sex couples, and would certainly prefer federal civil marriage, I think that they are a very important and legitimate step forward. I'm surprised that this wasn't included.
I will be out in solidarity on Saturday!

Obama does not wish to create federal civil unions. His web site says he supports "federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions.” This creates nothing, it simply extends federal rights to same-sex couples in whatever "union" their state has created.
This means that anyone in the 11 states & D.C. that have same-sex marriage, civil unions or domestic partnership could have full federal marital rights. If Congress words the legislation correctly, this may also mean that if you live in one of the other 39 states you could travel to Massachusetts and get married or to Vermont to get a civil union or to California, Washington or Oregon and sign up as registered domestic partners and have all the federal marital rights even if your home state does not grant you state marital rights. Any president can only sign what Congress passes. We need to lobby Congress to support the Obama's pledge for federal marriage equality. This has been made more difficult with the passage of Prop 8 and anti-marriage propositions in Arizona and Florida. But our community has faced long odds before and prevailed. Prior to the marriage lawsuits which brought a tsunami of reactionary electoral defeats outlawing same-sex marriage, we had a strategy that was working. Working through legislative bodies, and not the courts, we successfully passed hundreds of domestic partnership and civil union policies, none of which have ever been directly reversed. Civil unions and domestic partnerships have only been reversed when they were included in anti-same-sex marriage laws. Indeed, the promoters of Prop 8 admitted that they did not try to overturn California’s domestic partnership because they knew they would lose. Obama can only keep his promises if we lobby Congress to get the legislation passed. That is where we start!

You are making this process too complicated. Why not do like the HRC and others. You just add your name and aprove the letter and bingo.

HIGHLY agree with the comments above. i would love to sign this petition, but i do not have a printer to print this out and distribute it. doing it electronically would be MUCH more efficient and convenient. any chance you'll write this out in an email any time soon?

I'm excited to help but the mechanism is a bit archaic - I think we'll have a bigger impact if we can electronically sign & distribute. What do you think?

I don't want to print the letter and signature pages. I want to read them online to be sure (almost definitely) that I wish to sign. I was an active Obama campaigner, but I'm retire and poor. I can't afford to print all this. I just want to read and (probably) sign online.
Please change this strange and unnecessary requirement: You'll get a lot better response.

I received a petition from a member of Join the Impact. I thought it was the official "letter" and petition until I read it carefully and noticed there was no mention of DOMA. I came back to this site to learn that it's not the official letter you want us to use.
I'm thinking there might be a few too many petitions floating around - causing confusion and mayhem! I like that word: mayhem! Anywho . . . just thought you should know.

I'm confused by the wording of the mail deadline. What's is the ACTUAL DEADLINE THAT LETTERS MUST BE AT THE PO BOX IN OHIO? Seems like it should be Tuesday but "deadline for mailing signatures is Jan. 12" implies that's the last day we can put the signatures in the mail where ever we are.
Please advise! Will Elliott

I have people wanted to fax me in their signature pages. Is this acceptable? I assume it probably needs to be the original but would like to just clarify.
THANK YOU! Will Elliott
