| Micheal Vance, Executive Director of The Center, has created a great opportunity for One Orlando to have a very exciting and unique event for January (with kudos to Equality Florida's Joe Saunders for suggesting it). Micheal has arranged to present at The Center the exhibit "Days Without Sunshine: Anita Bryant's Anti-Gay Crusade." This is an exhibit shown earlier this year in Ft. Lauderdale commemorating the 30th anniversary of Anita Bryant's devastating campaign against the gay community, which resulted in (among other things) the repeal of a Miami gay-rights ordinance, and passage of Florida's still-existing gay adoption ban. Her campaign had far-reaching and long-lasting impacts on the LGBT community, as featured in the "Milk" film. ("Milk" is still playing at the Enzian if you haven't seen it yet!) One Orlando members will help to sponsor a Grand Opening Reception of this exhibit at The Center on January 10. Although the exhibit reception will be unique to One Orlando, we will complement the exhibit with other special activities in conjunction with the nationwide events on this day aimed at protesting DOMA, the state and federal Defense of Marriage Act. There will be a "protest" table where people can fill out postcards to send to President-Elect Obama and Governor Crist, asking them to repeal DOMA and to support marriage equality for the LGBT community, as well as sign a letter/petition to President-Elect Obama that will be presented to him by the national Join The Impact organizers. There will also be an "activist" table where we will provide info on the various LGBT and LGBT-supportive groups that people can join and support, and reps from the various groups are invited to come talk about their groups and what they do and what projects and events they have planned in the near future. There will be no charge to attend the reception and food and beverages [beer, wine, sodas] will be provided. We already have generous pledges of donations from some of our individual One Orlando members to help bear the costs involved in presenting this event, and additional donations or in-kind contributions are welcome and appreciated. Contact Micheal Vance to find out what types of in-kind contributions are most needed. Micheal@glbcc.org This will be an exciting event and I hope to see you all there! Stay tuned to www.oneorlando.org for all the latest events and information. Parking is in the vicinity.
