Marriage Equality USA® has also partnered with Join the Impact for this national event. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at local marriage counters in cities all over the country, same-sex couples will request marriage licenses at their local County Clerk’s Offices to raise awareness of the harms and impact the inability to marry causes on their families. Since 2001, Marriage Equality USA® chapters have engaged in these annual marriage counter actions to render visible the discrimination that is enforced every day. It is an affront to our basic dignity as fellow human beings when same-sex couples are turned away from the marriage counter, but it gives us the opportunity to tell our stories and show that we live in every community and want to honor and protect our families like everyone else. Everyone who supports marriage equality is welcomed to attend and support this event. | ATTIRE FOR FREEDOM TO MARRY DAY... Please feel free to come dressed to wed. We actually ENCOURAGE you to do so. Recently, I was inspired by Sabria from School of the Future.....she wrote to me and asked how she could start a day of silence at her school and in speaking with her, I learned her school doesn't have a GSA. Because I have rec'd a number of emails from students in the Southeastern PA region who want to be involved in the Marriage Equality-Gay Rights Movement, I wanted to post some info here. This is a very important issue, to me personally, to see that students who are willing and ready to be open about their sexuality have the ability to do so. Our community is made up of diversity and students are no exception. I have a short list below of resources for those of you, students, who want to be involved in the Equality Awareness Revolution. Here are some things you can do: Start a GSA: Gay Straight Alliance group at your school: http://www.equalitypa.org/issues/issues/gsa.php OTHER GSA TYPE OF RESOURCES: http://www.glsen.org/cgi-bin/iowa/all/home/index.html http://www.gsanetwork.org/ Talk to your friends openly and help each other understanding the many facets of sexuality and how it is important that we don't pronounciate the differences between us but embrace the diversity that makes us unique. Talk to your family, help them understand that as we evolve as a society, we must evolve our minds to let go of the fear and prejudices that ail us. Open our hearts to the reality that the world is simply not made up of homo and hetero sexuals. Tell your story: no matter your sexuality: www.imgaysowhat.com or www.imstraightsowhat.com If you fall into the Transgendered/Intersex or just queer category...still write to us, we will make a place for your stories!! You can email your story and photo to us: gaysowhat@gmail.com | |||||
