Portland Equality March
Saturday, October 24th @ 11:30am
Rally and march begins at the
South Park Blocks

SW Park and Harrison
At noon on October 24th, 2009, Portlanders will gather downtown to march, in solidarity, with Washington DC and the rest of the nation for full LGBTQI equality! Election after election our rights continue to be voted away. Gays continue to be booted from the military. Bashing and harrassment continues to go unabated for our gay youth in schools. Workplace discrimination continues to force some in our community to have to lie about their sexual orientation on the job or face possible harrassment, even termination. Equal Protection Under the Law continues to not apply to members of the LGBTQI community, and in large part, across our nation. As we do recognize the marriage victories in ME, IA, CT, MA, VT, and NH, we need to build on that momentum and ensure full equality across this entire nation. We believe that the time is NOW to break down the walls of hate and discrimination in this country. NOW is the time begin a massive, well-organized Equal Rights Movement! So, tell your friends and family, and join us downtown on October 24th at 12pm!

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: make or buy a "Second Class Citizen" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles (battery powered if you'll be huddling inside).
  • Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

justagayteen JANUARY 10th 09' PORTLAND RALLY (questions) 0 Jan 3 2009, 12:34 AM EST by justagayteen
Thread started: Jan 3 2009, 12:34 AM EST  Watch
- is this an actual "rally/protest" or just people standing around to sign petitions?

- is anyone planning and organizing this rally? out last rally in portland was organized in a few days which didn't turn out as well as it could've, so someone should start thinking about organizing this rally.

- is there going to be a chance for portland to march for their rights down the streets? when?

I love JTI events (lol)

Jessica_ Advice for Eugene? 0 Dec 14 2008, 5:21 PM EST by Jessica_
Thread started: Dec 14 2008, 5:21 PM EST  Watch
I'd like to see if it wold be possible to get some sort of Light Up The Night event going on in Eugene, but I don't know how. I know it's short notice, but if I can get something going, even something small, it'd be better than nothing. If anyone has information about how theirs was put together, or useful people to contact, that would be a help.
