LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
HOW DOES IT WORK IN RENO?
  • Locally we will show our support of an already established event with similar goals. The Silver Dollar Court Annual Holidday Food Drive, compliments our common cause. Please join your local Prop 8 Protest Planning Committee in its support of the Silver Dollar Court!
  • To date the Silver Dollar Court has raised pver $1.3 million dollars for many worthy causes. The mission of the Slver Dollar Court is to serve as a is a non-political social organization promoting the positive image of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community through charitable fundraising to meet the needs of all.
  • The Prop 8 Protests Planning Committee feels the work of the Silver Dollar Court, during this difficult time of need is especially important and recognizes the needs of our commuity. We are responsible citizens, worthy of marriage responsiblites and from time to time may need to set aside our own events for the common good of us all. Please join us for this worthy cause!
HOW DOES IT WORK IN OTHER CITIES? CAN WE PARTICIPATE THERE?
  • Other cities such as our close neighbors to the west in Sacramento and San Francisco are planning a Silent Vigil, similar to one held in Reno on Nov 15th. Please feel free to support those cities, as we are all one community, with one common goal.
  • Please visit a city page nearest you for information.
  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: Make a "First Class Responsiblities with Second Class Rights" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)
WHAT WILL OTHER CITIES BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

Go WolfPack! Be sure to get someone (if you can professional that does it for free)... to get pics of everyone downtown and with the Arch - those pictures would be AWESOME! I will be sending the information for your event to my friends there ... see if I can't help get the word out for you too. Was proud of the turnout for Nov 15th. Keep it going!

Hugs!!!!

Anonymous Define "man". Define "woman". 1 Nov 14 2008, 9:30 AM EST by Anonymous

I would like to show support for gay marriage in Nevada, along with other people. If someone could organize this, please let me know.

I suggested once on RGJ that legalizing gay marriage could bring a bunch of $$'s into our town. Everyone coming here to get married would surely spend money on flowers, on hotel rooms, at our gas stations, at our airport, in our casinos...

I have also mentioned the possibility that supporters might want to donate blood before/during/after any gathering to emphasize the fact that the blood services will not accept donations from anyone admitting to a same-sex relationship.

And on top of that, what if a religion recognizes a same-sex marriage, but the government forbids it? Many major religions now recognize the union of same-sex couples, but also state that a couple in a union are living in sin if that union is not a marriage.

posted something like this in my blog:

Prop 8 passed in CA defining that marriage is only a union between a "man" and a "woman", but does it include a definition of man or woman?

What is a man or a woman? There have been people born as XX that developed a significant male anatomy. And vice-versa.

There have also been male circumcisions that have gone drastically awry, and the parents elected to ask the doctor to assign a different gender profile to the child.

And there have been children raised as the opposite gender in cultures that respect and honor that choice (of the parents, not the child).

And that doesn't even touch the other variations, like extra X or extra Y chromosomes.

Not even talking about gender-reassignment here.

So if we define a man as XY and a woman as XX, then no one else can never ever get married, no matter what church camp they go to?
