Invite as many people as you can.
Bring homemade protest signs and accessories. Buy products (yard signs, bumper stickers, banners, etc.) and donate to the 'California Marriage Equality Act' ballot campaign.
Have refreshments: Bottled water, snacks, etc.

Remember: Please be respectful and civil with people who may disagree with you. Have police authorities with you during the protest/rally. This is to help keep civility and stability.
California has a huge diverse population and its up to this ballot initiative campaign to reach out and speak up for the Golden State's diversity.

What can you do to support marriage equality NOW? Speak to at least three people you know whether it be a friend, relative, or acquaintance from California. Keep up the conversation for months and don't give up.

Please note that this event is just a plan. Grassroots protests and rallies won't begin probably until the start of the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, which is next year.
But it never hurts to start grassroots conversations NOW and begin gathering supporters when the event comes. Take care!

MARRIAGE LOBBY DAY | February 17, 2009

Join activists from across the state for a lobby day at the California State Capitol. This is a great way to share your story and take action to make a difference.

Lobby your representatives directly to pass two resolutions to overturn Prop 8. SR 7 (Leno) and HR 5 (Ammiano) will make it the state’s official stance that Prop 8 should be invalidated.

The event is free and open to all. Each participant will receive a lobbying training, advocacy materials, and be assigned to an experienced group leader. EQCA will arrange the meeting with your elected official(s).

Annual Marriage Counter Actions sponsored by Marriage Equality USA, partnering with Join the Impact. The event consists of highlighting the state sanctioned discrimination against same-sex couples by having long-term same-sex couples, often with children and grandchildren in tow, turned away from the marriage counter after requesting a marriage license while it serves heterosexual couples that approach no questions asked. The press is very active at this event.

Volunteers Needed:
We are asking for three categories of couples:
Category #1) A married same-sex couple whose marriage could be invalidated.
Category #2) A straight married couple to show support.
Category #3) The same-sex couple that wants to get married.
Please contact ca-sacramento@marriageequality.org if you would like to participate. Thanks!

Equality Action NOW (EAN), the Northern California grassroots civil rights organization dedicated to mobilizing concerned citizens to promote equality for all, has announced that it is co-sponsoring, “Love and Marriage – Come Wearing White – Leave Seeing Red!” an important statewide rally on the steps of the California State Capitol in Sacramento February 16, 2009 at 1:00pm.

Equality Action Now joins California Outreach, Marriage Equality USA, Equality California (EQCA) and Join the Impact as sponsors and organizers of the event.. “Love and Marriage” will give citizens throughout the state of California and from across the country an opportunity to show their solidarity for the rights of 18,000 same-sex couples who were married and look forward to the day when those rights are available again - this time for everyone.

“We are reaching out and joining other groups to sponsor the latest of many highly attended events to help make visible a community of Americans left out of basic rights others have in our country,” said Tina Reynolds, Sacramento community activist and founder of EqualityActionNOW.org. “‘Love and Marriage’ will bring together LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgendered, Questioning) people, young and old as well as their family members, and supporters to show their solidarity for the rights of same-sex couples – those already wed and those waiting for the day to come when they will also have the opportunity.”

The star-studded list of speakers and entertainers who will take the stage beginning at 1:00pm includes actors George Takai (Star Trek) and his husband Brad Altman; Julia Louis-Dryfus (“Seinfeld” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine”); actor Doug Spearman (“Noah’s Arc”) and singer Deborah Gibson. Also speaking will be Robin Tyler (long time political and gay activist); Marc Shaiman (“Saturday Night Live,” creator of “Prop 8 the Musical” and a 2003 Tony Award for Best Score of a Musical for "Hairspray”); Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen (film producers “Milk” and “American Beauty”) and actress Selene Luna (“Margaret Cho Show”). Singer Melissa Etheridge will appear via video as well as folk singer, Eric Himan with a personal message and singing his song, “The Protest”. (Note: This listing is subject to change.)

Since You Are Calling In Gay Tomorrow, Come out and Play Tonight!
Statewide, 7 pm to midnight
Look for special events at your local bars, bookstores, coffee shops to celebrate being gay, in preparation of calling in feeling a little “queer” tomorrow.

Update: No cover at Faces and 2 for 1 drink specials this Tuesday night!

Statewide, Nationwide: A DAY WITHOUT GAY — “Call in Gay” On December 10th, supporters of the LGBTQI community are going on strike for one day to protest the passing of Proposition 8 and the removal of civil rights from the California Constitution of the LGBTQI community. 24 hours without our money, one day with no shopping (I know, I know... this will be HARD). But the good part is that you can “Call in Gay.” Just say “I feel a little queer today, and I won’t be in.”
More information: tina@EqualityActionNOW.org We've reacted to anti-gay ballot initiatives in California, Arizona Florida, and Arkansas with anger, with resolve, and with courage. NOW, it's time to show America and the world how we love. Gay people and our allies are compassionate, sensitive, caring, mobilized, and programmed for success. A day without gays would be tragic because it would be a day without love. On December 10, 2008 the gay community will take a historic stance against hatred by donating love to a variety of different causes. On December 10, you are encouraged not to call in sick to work. You are encouraged to call in "gay"--and donate your time to service! For more information, visit: http://www.daywithoutagay.org

Take action NOW! Come to this first Post-Prop 8 Town Hall Meeting to get updat get updated on what is happening in our community, learn how you can get involved, and share your ideas and concerns. We're looking for a showing from the ENTIRE LGBTQI community plus all of our allies.

GOALS:
- Update community on post-Prop 8 events.
- Urge ALL attendees to get involved by signing up for a community workgroup.

Doug Manchester owns the second largest Hyatt hotel in the US, the Manchester Grand Hyatt. His early contribution of $125,000 helped put Proposition 8 on the ballot.

GLBT activists have been boycotting the Manchester Hyatt since July, but Global Hyatt Corporation still refuses to repudiate Manchester, despite their "gay-friendly" marketing strategies.

Maybe Hyatt should just announce that we are no longer welcome in their hotels.
