GENERAL SERVICE WEEKEND | APRIL 11 - 12, 2009
Despite recent emails and rumors, the LGBT community is not organizing a protest of the LDS General Conference. However, the LGBT community is organizing a General Service Weekend to give back to our community and make Utah a better place to live.

Working with Mayor Corroon, Mayor Becker, the Department of Labor, The Road Home, Parks and Recreations, Utah Gardens , the United
Way and Head Start we have organized many different service projects lined up. These include park clean ups, assisting refugee families living in Utah , and putting together packets of medical supplies to assist in humanitarian efforts.

We hope that everyone that is free will come, and bring their friends and family members. There’s a lot that we can do together.
Please note that this event has been delayed from April 4 - 5 to April 11 - 12 due to bad weather!

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FOR EQUALITY | DECEMBER 20, 2008 | 5PM
WHAT IS IT?
On December 20th, we ask that you join us again for a nation-wide demonstration that will make an impact on the private sector. Candlelight vigils will be held at commercial centers in cities across the country in remembrance of the rights that once were for 18,000 marriages, and in honor of the rights that one day will be again - for EVERYONE.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Please take to your local commercial district at 5PM--be it a shopping mall, outdoor financial center, you name it.
  • This will be a peaceful demonstration in the spirit of the holidays.
  • We'll dress alike: make or buy a "Second Class Citizen" t-shirt.
  • This will be the culmination of our National Food Drive for Equality event (see below for details)
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Hosting peaceful candlelight vigils
  • We will stay silent unless asked a question, we will not yell, instigate, or bare signs. Instead, we will let our shirts do the talking and our candles pay our respects.Bring candles (battery powered if you'll be huddling inside).
  • Singing and/or silence encouraged...chanting is not....keep it peaceful and in the holiday spirit.

Try-Angles Holds Holiday Food Drive
Written by JoSelle Vanderhooft
Sunday, 30 November 2008
This holiday season, popular dance club and cozy neighborhood bar Club Try-Angles will give back to the community by hosting a food drive throughout December.

“We don’t have 22 million dollars to spend on hate like some organizations do in California,” said club owner Gene Gieber, referring to the money members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints raised to pass Proposition 8, which re-banned gay marriage in California. “So let’s spend our resources on love here in Utah.”

The goal of the food drive, Gieber said, is to fill the club’s patio with non-perishable food items and toiletries to donate to the Utah Food Bank and the Utah AIDS Foundation’s food bank. Donations will be accepted until Dec. 20. On that night, the club will host one of its famous Underwear Nights to commemorate the closing.

Let us all nationwide show the LOVE of the GLBT Community in a silent protest. A positive way to help needy families, record homeless families, and the poor in our great country. The L.D.S. Church is famous for charity giving and social programs. This is the biggest waste of $22 million dollars, many needy families could be fed this year for that amount. I support any positive giving to charities in your own community. Toys for Tots, Big Brothers Sisters, Food Pantry, Salvation Army, and many more.

I am one person but with others in the GLBT Community, we can make a difference.

With my working poor domestic partner this year we were already able to donate $1300 to charities thru eBay giving works . I am the originator of the food drive in opposition to hate in Utah.

Tom and Darin

I really want to go to another protest, but the next one I know if is January 10th. If anyone wants to organize one or knows of one going on, I would love to know. That would be awesome.
