Invite as many people as you can.
Bring homemade protest signs and accessories. Buy products (yard signs, bumper stickers, banners, etc.) and donate to the 'California Marriage Equality Act' ballot campaign.
Have refreshments: Bottled water, snacks, etc.

Remember: Please be respectful and civil with people who may disagree with you. Have police authorities with you during the protest/rally. This is to help keep civility and stability.
California has a huge diverse population and its up to this ballot initiative campaign to reach out and speak up for the Golden State's diversity.

What can you do to support marriage equality NOW? Speak to at least three people you know whether it be a friend, relative, or acquaintance from California. Keep up the conversation for months and don't give up.

Please note that this event is just a plan. Grassroots protests and rallies won't begin probably until the start of the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, which is next year.
But it never hurts to start grassroots conversations NOW and begin gathering supporters when the event comes. Take care!

OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA
In an open letter to the LGBT Community, President-elect Obama has said, "I support repealing the federal Defense of Marriage Act, passing an inclusive non-discrimination act, repealing “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” passing hate crimes legislation and fighting HIV/AIDS."

We're reminding him of that pledge by writing our own open letter back to him!
Get involved today: print the Open Letter, take it to school or work, and collect signatures!

The goal of 1,000,000 signatures is within reach! San Diego can help get us there!
Please collect signatures for this letter!

The ACLU wants you to know your rights as a protester.
+ Talk. Talk to your family, your community, your faith leaders, and your elected officials about why you support marriage equality. Send a postcard in a #10 envelope (he won't accept postcards anymore due to the high volume!) to President-elect Obama and let him know that you haven't forgotten the promises he made to the LGBT community.

+ Commit. Commit to having at least one equality based conversation a day. Talk to someone you don't know and tell them what equality means to you. Commit to posting one flier a day in your neighborhood, or taking one to each of the places you hang out. Commit to attend our events and bring someone with you! Commit to Camp Courage San Diego!

+ Gather. Gather signatures on the Open Letter to Barack Obama. Take it to the shopping malls, the streets, your office, your classrooms, Starbucks, the hair salon, the library, and every other place you go. Every time you have a conversation, get a signature on the letter.

+ Give. Give back to your community, starting with volunteering. Being out in our community, outside of the LGBT community, is essential to winning our rights! If you're able, donate money to the ACLU, Lambda Legal, or Equality California. If you're able, donate time to volunteering with San Diego Equality Campaign -- see below, and left, to find out what needs doing.

+ Join the Impact. We have events both in conjunction with the national Join the Impact events, and also our own local events. We'll be marching in January and applying for marriage licenses in February. Join San Diego Equality Campaign or our Yahoo Mailing list to learn more.

March 2009 -- Service Project -- Join us as we help our community through these difficult times by completing a service project in our community. Stay tuned for more details!
Volunteer!

Volunteers are needed to take an active role in assisting with crowd control at large events, such as marches. Volunteers are not active participants in the events, though they support the cause and do march with the crowds. However, volunteers must be able to dedicate extra time to the cause, including mandatory training and refraining from socializing and being distracted by children, family, friends, or pets while working an event. Time commitment involved is about 10 hours in the week leading up to the event and including the day of the event.

Our volunteers make our events safe, peaceful, and positive. We understand that it's not for everyone. If you are interested, please contact San Diego Equality Campaign and put the word "Volunteer" in the subject line. Thanks for getting involved!

San_Diego_Dave President Clinton speaking at Manchester Hyatt - Sunday February 15th. 6 Feb 16 2009, 3:38 AM EST by pngwnz
Thread started: Feb 12 2009, 7:18 PM EST  Watch
We ALL know that Doug Manchester provided $125,000 to the Yes on 8 campaign. Manchester Hyatt is also being picketed by their union employees.

Now it turns out that President Clinton is headed to the Manchester Hyatt this coming Sunday for a speaking engagement. What to do, what to do? Shall we show President Clinton that we are NOT fooling around anymore? Or are we going to continue showing that we are complicit in allowing our political officials to keep using the LGBT community as pawns to further their agendas?

Shall we picket if he doesn't move his speaking engagement? We can also write to Clinton's foundation showing our displeasure with his decision to embrace Mr. Manchester's hatred toward the LGBT community.

You can contact the Clinton Foundation here: http://www.clintonfoundation.org/about-the-clinton-foundation/contact-us/contact-form

As for me, I already wrote to the foundation, and I will be showing up on Sunday to protest the President's indiscretion in choosing the Manchester Hyatt for this speaking engagement. Is suggest everyone else who is interested in equality for the LGBT community do the same.

Smiledaydream Does any gay or HIV org. run a thrift store in San Diego county? 3 Jan 21 2009, 5:35 PM EST by MikeTidmus
Thread started: Jan 11 2009, 10:11 AM EST  Watch
I would prefer to donate to an organization supporting HIV or gay causes. Also would love to help organize and sell. If no, anyone north of San Diego want to work on finding a location? With so many empty store fronts we might be able to find something.

Why is there no link to a facebook event for the San Diego location? The San Francisco event has over 5,000 invited on Facebook.
