Invite as many people as you can.
Bring homemade protest signs and accessories. Buy products (yard signs, bumper stickers, banners, etc.) and donate to the 'California Marriage Equality Act' ballot campaign.
Have refreshments: Bottled water, snacks, etc.

Remember: Please be respectful and civil with people who may disagree with you. Have police authorities with you during the protest/rally. This is to help keep civility and stability.
California has a huge diverse population and its up to this ballot initiative campaign to reach out and speak up for the Golden State's diversity.

What can you do to support marriage equality NOW? Speak to at least three people you know whether it be a friend, relative, or acquaintance from California. Keep up the conversation for months and don't give up.

Please note that this event is just a plan. Grassroots protests and rallies won't begin probably until the start of the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, which is next year.
But it never hurts to start grassroots conversations NOW and begin gathering supporters when the event comes. Take care!

    Pacific Pride Foundation Press Release

    Pacific Pride Foundation Announces

    PPF logo
Pacific Pride Foundation forms the Strategic Alliance for Marriage Equality (S.A.M.E.) and Announces Local Participation in a Nation-Wide Protest of the Defense of Marriage Act this Saturday

Pacific Pride Foundation announces the formation of a coalition of community members; the Strategic Alliance for Marriage Equality (S.A.M.E.). The goal of S.A.M.E. is to motivate and promote local activism in the effort to achieve marriage equality at a local, state and national level. This coalition is made up of a diverse group of volunteers including members of LGBT and straight communities, as well as parents, and people of faith.

Santa Barbara was the only county in southern California to defeat Prop 8 and its local gay rights proponents remain active. Since the November election there has been an outpouring of energy and activism to repeal Proposition 8 as well as renewed scrutiny of the Defense of Marriage Act. Several events including nation-wide rallies have had a significant local impact, bringing more of the Santa Barbara community together. The S.A.M.E. coalition is hoping to harness that energy and focus it on upcoming state and nation-wide campaigns for marriage equality as well as generate some of its own local grassroots events. Some of those next steps have already been identified and planned.
Provide real, usable information. Avoid a slick sales pitch. Reporters are only interested in the facts.

    DOMA Protest, January 10
This Saturday, January 10th at 10:30am S.A.M.E. will be facilitating local participation in a nation-wide protest of the Defense of Marriage Act at the Santa Maria City Hall Plaza. What is commonly referred to as DOMA states that the Federal Government may not treat same-sex relationships as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states. It also states that no state need treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state. After being passed by Congress, it was signed into law by Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996.

    Town Hall Meeting, January 14

On January 14th, S.A.M.E. will be hosting a town-hall meeting on marriage equality in the Faulkner Gallery at the Santa Barbara Public Library from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The spirit of that meeting will be represented by members of the coalition at the Equality Summit hosted by Equality California on January 24th, 2009 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Over 100 organizations will be gathering at this summit to network and plan what's next in the campaign for marriage equality.
