Invite as many people as you can.
Bring homemade protest signs and accessories. Buy products (yard signs, bumper stickers, banners, etc.) and donate to the 'California Marriage Equality Act' ballot campaign.
Have refreshments: Bottled water, snacks, etc.

Remember: Please be respectful and civil with people who may disagree with you. Have police authorities with you during the protest/rally. This is to help keep civility and stability.
California has a huge diverse population and its up to this ballot initiative campaign to reach out and speak up for the Golden State's diversity.

What can you do to support marriage equality NOW? Speak to at least three people you know whether it be a friend, relative, or acquaintance from California. Keep up the conversation for months and don't give up.

Please note that this event is just a plan. Grassroots protests and rallies won't begin probably until the start of the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, which is next year.
But it never hurts to start grassroots conversations NOW and begin gathering supporters when the event comes. Take care!

December 20th, 2008 LUTN

What an Event we had!!
Several hundred people came out to the vigil Saturday 12/20/2008.
We started off with the San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus serenading the crowd with some appropriately political holiday music.
We then proceeded down Pacific Avenue through the shopping areas.
Most were very supportive. We had some really great news coverage both in print and TV:

Here is the TV news coverage link

Thank you to all who came and all who helped out.
It couldn't have been such a success (top 3 or so in attendance in the whole country) without you!

If you've a mind to, there are two different Facebook invites to this event too...
Santa Cruz - Marriage Equality
We will start at the Santa Cruz Town Clock at 5p.m. Where we will be sent on our way with some Holiday Music from members of the San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus (the full Chorus will be preforming at FCC at 7p.m..... the perfect after vigil event!)

We will walk up through the commercial area of Pacific Ave. of downtown and back. Bring candles (we will have some in case they are needed, we will also have cups) We will also have paper flyers to pin/tape to peoples clothing available, or print your own (see below).

We will NOT be chanting. We will be silent or singing carols (processions are difficult to have ONE simultaneous song going at once, so this will be more free flowing and organic). We feel that sending a message of thanks to the people of the County of Sata Cruz for their support, would be appropriate during the procession. We feel that the mood should be in the holiday spirit and have an overall joyous attitude (even though we have so much fight left to go.....just not this night). Santa hats, bells would be nice.... use your imagination!

We will have 2 messages for the flyers we will be providing, provided below for you to print as well:
Marriage Equality for ALL Americans (main message)
Thank you to the people of Santa Cruz County for your Support! (secondary message)

We will also have a banner reading "All I want for Christmas is Equal Marriage Rights"

PLEASE ADD TO IT if you have photos!

There were at least 500 people in attendance at the County Courthouse (not including the small and peaceful Yes on 8 contingent).

It was warm and sunny and peaceful

I heard some say that there were too many politicians speaking, but that is the embarrassment of riches in Santa Cruz --- there are many supportive County and City officials!

The County of Santa Cruz has joined San Francisco in the legal fight against Prop. 8

Thank you!
