June 5 - 6. TIM MILLER'S LAY OF THE LAND8 PMMickee Faust Clubhouse623 McDonnell DriveTallahassee850-562-RATSwww.mickeefaust.com LA-based performance artist Tim Miller is bringing his newest solo show, "Lay of the Land" about the up and down merry-go-around of the homophobic vote in California on Proposition 8 to Tallahassee.
LAY OF THE LAND is Tim Miller's saucy, sharp-knifed look at the State of the (Queer) American Union during a time of trial as CA and FL fight the anti-gay H8! Careening from his sexy misadventures performing in 45 States, to No on Prop 8 protests, to his jury duty anxiety, to choking on cheap meat caught in his 10 year old gay boy's throat, LAY OF THE LAND friskily gets at that feeling of gay folks being perpetually on trial, on the ballot, and on the menu! (See what having a tiny majority of your state invalidate 18,000 gay families' marriages will do!) LAY OF THE LAND is a "lay" in all kinds of ways: a sex-assignation, a queer topography, and of course a narrative ballad with a recurrent refrain! (Miller's favorite way-down-the-list definition for "lay"!)
JUNE 7 - 12. TIM MILLER WORKSHOP OUR VOICES/OUR SELVES
The following week, Tim will be conducting a workshop for anyone wishing to learn the art of writing and performing personal narratives for the stage. This workshop culminates in a performance by participants on Friday, June 12th.
THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR PEOPLE TO GATHER TOGETHER AND EXPLORE CREATING ORIGINAL PERFORMANCES
Miller's goal is to share a variety of strategies to create original performances from the tremendous energies and stories that are present in our lives. Using our own memories and myths as a jumping off point, we will see where a deep sense of personal history creates performance that jumps out from our bodies onto the stage or the page. Please bring your hearts and brains, hopes and fears. No performance experience necessary.
"Tim Miller sings that song of the self which interrogates, with explosive, exploding, subversive joy and freedom, the constitution and borderlines of selfhood. You think you don't need to hear such singing? You do! You must!"
Tony Kushner, author of Angels in America

FREEDOM TO MARRY COUNTER ACTION12 - 1 PMLeon County Clerk Annex310 South CalhounTallahasseeImpact Tallahassee joins Marriage Equality USA and Join the Impact in the annual marriage counter action to raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of securing marriage equality for same-sex couples and their families. The event consists of local same-sex couples and their supporters "getting engaged" for marriage equality by asking for marriage licenses at their local marriage counters.Though this is a demonstration in support of civil rights for LGBT people, please understand that this is NOT AN ADVERSARIAL EVENT. People who engage in this activity agree to conduct themselves with DIGNITY, FRIENDLINESS, and not to raise their voices or act impolite. The county clerks are not able to change the law. They are carrying out the laws as enacted by the State legislators - not their own conscience. This is a solemn and dignified action in the tradition of the civil rights lunch counter demonstrations to make visible the legal discrimination that happens at that counter every day.People are encouraged to dress in wedding garb. Look festive for the cameras and public.RSVP to Isabelle Potts, ipcbavs@yahoo.com, 224-8188 with your name, number of attendees, and cell phone and email contact information so we can let you know of any last minute changes and work with you to tell your story to the media in advance of the event.MORE IMPACT TALLAHASSEE ACTIVITIES FOR JANUARY 2009JANUARY 19.
