Hello organizers,
My name is Adam and I work at the Oakland Museum of California. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO PRESERVE THE HISTORY OF JOIN THE IMPACT TOMORROW. We are a museum of the entire state of California and we have been collecting items that represent the history of Proposition 8 in California . The events that are happening nationwide on Saturday are a BIG part of this story, as the passing of Proposition 8 has affected people around the country. Please help us. I am asking all of you to collect items from your respective events that we can take into our museum collection and preserve for future generations. Kinds of items we are interested in: protest signs, fliers, pamphlets, buttons, banners, T-shirts, noisemakers...anything that says something about your event would be of interest. Of special interest are things that represent your location, i.e. “Oregonians against Prop. 8!” or “The Hoosier State Says Down with 8!” Don’t let anything hold you back – if in doubt, keep it and tell me about it and we just might want it. What is happening right now will likely be seen as a historic time in the history of this movement, and please think about how objects that you find tomorrow will tell a story that people in the future will want to see! DON’T JUST JOIN THE IMPACT, PRESERVE THE IMPACT Thank you for reading this, and as soon as you have objects to report back on, send me an email or give me a call. I look forward to hearing from you! Best regards, Adam

Here is a copy of the official press release from OkEq and myself sent out yesterday:
JOIN THE IMPACT PROTEST NOVEMBER 15, 2008 Tulsa, Okla – November 13, 2008 — This Saturday, in cities across the nation, fair-minded individuals and families will gather to protest inequality in what has become a truly grassroots movement. The passage of California’s Proposition 8, rejections of marriage equality in Arizona and Florida, and anti-gay adoption laws in Arkansas have sparked a national movement against the discriminatory treatment of LGBT people everywhere. Join the Impact “seeks to encourage the LGBTQ community not to look towards the past and place blame, but instead to look forward toward what needs to be done now to achieve one goal: Full equality for ALL.” Oklahomans for Equality (OkEq) is honored to help Join the Impact in ensuring that the voices of all LGBT and allied Tulsans are heard this Saturday. At 10:00AM Saturday morning, we invite our community and our friends to gather at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center in preparation for Join the Impact’s march on City Hall. OkEq will offer a picket sign building workshop and will provide all the supplies needed to create your own message affirming equality. Join us for a cup of coffee and light refreshments before marching from the Equality Center at E 4th Street and Kenosha to City Hall at E 2nd Street and Cincinnati for the 12:30PM protest. “This is really a great opportunity for our community to come together and join a national movement against LGBT discrimination in an affirming, productive manner. It’s imperative that we have our voices heard,” says OkEq Board Member Matt Warren. Join the Impact’s national protest is being held at the same time in hundreds of cities across the nation. Here in Tulsa, OkEq is proud to offer assistance to this cause and invites participants to come back to the Equality Center after the hour long event for a post-protest meeting. |

I have the ability to utilize a capacity to speak to large group of people, most of them lesbian, gay, and gay-friendly straight people. I think that most of them would come to the rally. I just need to know where we should all end up. I have posted many times on myspace with an ever changing event location. I do not want them to become disheartened by ill preparation. I am just trying to make sure I send them to the right place because I will have a crowd tonight and I think that I am going to have an Emcee announce the plan of the rally.

Good morning GLBTQ and Allies! I want you all to know that this rally has the potential to be absolutely huge! We have several influential supporters and the word is being spread quickly. It is time for our community to be visible and recoginized in Oklahoma. However, we are still working out some kinks for this last minute gathering.
The location that was picked out for us does not fit our needs. We cannot march as we have not had time to file a permit. We can assemble on the sidewalk and/or parking lot large enough to hold us without needing a permit. The location WILL be changing. Any suggestions? Also, I would like to be able to get some volunteers to pass out flyers at the local LGBT hotspots on Thursday and Friday. Any volunteers? Please, if you have any contacts, GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM! Your gay-friendly church or business, high-profile community leaders. Get the word out! I want to stress that this is a peaceful and respectful demonstration. We need to make an impact and turning the other cheek is the best way to do that! Make signs and t-shirts, but make sure they don't single out a religion or other minority group. Don't use profanity or explicit signs and t-shirts. Thank you for being respectful and showing our community that we have something valuable to add. We are not devients damned to hell! Come out, be proud, and stand up for our rights! Thank you, Ashleigh

The most visible place for peaceful demonstrations is on the 4 corners at the intersection of 41st and Yale. The sooner a time and location are identified the better the turnout and impact will be.
Let's make this happen. L
