come out to Protest
the upcoming
Proposed City Charter Amendment 1
.

Who will be affected by proposed Charter Amendment 1?

Proposed Charter Amendment 1 would take away anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. The proposed amendment also would prohibit the City Commission from adding other groups such as veteran status, economic status, and political party affiliation to Gainesville’s existing anti-discrimination ordinance.

Proposed Charter 1 affects all citizens of Gainesville, because it takes away the City Commission’s power to create, enact, or enforce anti-discrimination protections beyond the limited protections of the Florida Civil Rights Act. A Yes vote on proposed Charter Amendment 1 will hand Gainesville’s anti-discrimination laws to Tallahassee legislators and Gainesville citizens will be stripped of the power to decide what is right for them.

Charter Amendment 1 hurts people!

It eliminates protections against discrimination and makes it legal to fire someone from their job or kick them out of their home because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
Charter Amendment 1 takes away the City's power to protect its citizens from discrimination!
It prohibits the City Commission from prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, economic status, or political affiliation and gives Tallahassee politicians the sole power to dictate what is best for the citizens of Gainesville.

Charter Amendment 1 ruins Gainesville's reputation and hurts its economy!

It would destroy Gainesville’s reputation as a community that is open and welcoming to anyone who comes here to work, learn, or visit. This will hinder our ability to attract new businesses, students, and visitors and hurt our economy.

PROP 10

We had 10 people here, and it was awesome. My buddy in LA held his cell phone up and I put the live feed over the coffee house sound system, and it gave us chills -- all the thousands of people cheering and marching. And since Waldo is only a block long (lol) we stayed together and got our energies congruent, told stories about where we had been. We also watched the YouTube - MSNBC clip, it was a beautiful thing. Thanks for all the emails from you Big City folks -- you got our backs and we appreciate you being on the front end of this thing, and we got your backs as well -- Peace OUT and Love to All --- and remember, LET'S GET ON THE 10, bring this one IN -- Roland
Also, bring your protest signs -- Make sure they are "STRONG IN WORD, but respectful" because this is not against those who voted yes on PROP 2 -- This is an appeal to our Government to overturn this vote, across the nation, and assure Civil Rights for ALL Americans.

Peace OUT, and let's show our SMALL TOWN STRENGTH -- go to 30124coffee.com for more
