1) Take the pledge not to sign
http://eqfed.org/campaign/DeclineToSignPet_712)Talk to your friends and neighbors and ask them not to sign petitions for referendum 71. While you are at it, tell them that if the referendum does make the ballot we will have to VOTE YES on 71 to protect Domestic Partnership rights. (Confusing, right?)
3) Get creative. Are you a film maker? Make an Internet commercial. Are you a graphic designer? Make some awesome signs, logos, t-shirts, etc. Are you a good writer? Write a letter to the editor asking people to decline to sign 71. Use your imagination, but what ever you do, do not remain silent.
5) Please consider donating to
Washington Families Standing Together. If we concentrate our resources through their PAC we will be far more powerful than if we splinter it throughout the community. Here is a link to that
https://secure.ga4.org/01/donate_2009_PAC6) If you do encounter someone gathering signatures for referendum 71, DON'T SIGN, but be kind. Take the opportunity to discuss how important Domestic Partnerships are for your family, friends and neighbors. If you see other people signing petitions, remember it is against state law to interfere with someone's right to sign petitions. You can politely ask them not to. You can try to win their heart and mind (smiles work wonders in the heart department), but you can not do anything to restrict them from actually signing the petition.
7) Most importantly, have fun with this. I grew up in Iowa, and learned from a young age that political campaigns can be a blast. You will meet new people, stretch your horizons, realize new and innovative ways to reach people, and best of all, you will make the world a better place.
Keep spreading the word. Thank you all so much!
