We Shall Overcome- Fight Bigotry Inauguration DayThis is a featured page

As you all most likely know, fundamentalist Christian and known homophobe Rick Warren was chosen by President-elect Barack Obama to pray at his inauguration. Warren has proven himself to be an enemy of the cause of equality time an time again, whether by excluding LGBT people from his Saddleback Church, comparing homosexuality to incest and pedophilia, or donating his time and money to anti-gay initiatives.

While Obama has proven to be relatively friendly towards the gay community, his selection of Warren sends an all-too-clear message to LGBT people and those who support them: in our case, the time for change is not now. But we know it is, and I want you to know that there's something we can do. It isn't hard, it won't cost you a penny, and you don't have to go out of your way to do it.

On January 20th, while Warren gives his prayer, simply sing, chant, or hum the song We Shall Overcome. Sing it as loudly or quietly as you wish, whatever your singing ability may be, no matter where you are (although those attending the actual swearing-in are doubly encouraged to participate). Additionally, I encourage you to forward this link and spread the word to anyone who supports the cause of equality. With your help, our collective voices of hope, change, and equality shall overcome Warren's voice of intolerance.
