Stop spending

I have posted a short brief blog on my My Space http://www.myspace.com/laurastutler
asking that we all halt as much of our spending as we can and if you must have it and you can buy it from gay & Lesbians please do so.
Let them know we contribute financially as well.

I think also that the Mormon church should have to pay taxes on all money it has contributed to this cause/prevention of gay & Lesbian marriage.
Feel free to contact me.

The Mormon church didn't spend any significant money on the Prop 8 campaign. It was individual Mormon's, whose incomes would have already been taxed. 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops also gave quite a bit of money to Yes on Hate. They called the Mormon Church to ask for their support, as well. John Templeton gave about 900K (one of the largest individual donors) to the cause for hate, as well. Although I might agree that one attack doesn't justify another, I do remember - over and over, again, those hate filled ads during the campaign regarding the so called Gay Agenda and the implied "teaching your children about Gay anything and they might turn Gay" double talk... and it still makes me quite angry. These ads perpetuated lies and contributed to fears - all unwarranted. They were paid for by all of those who contributed to the Yes on Hate cause. Here in LA, there's a story about a restaurant owner who got caught - she contributed one hundred dollars to Yes on 8. Her clientele is mostly Gay.... and when she met with representatives from the Gay community, she said the Mormon Church cajoled her into giving either one hundred dollars or one thousand dollars. So, what do we do? I'm not promoting an attack on anyone via a boycott. But, it did work many years ago, for Rosa Parks. If she had not protested and if the subsequent boycott had not occurred, she and other African Americans might still be sitting at the back of the bus. All acts of civil disobedience and protest are valid. Do you find this valuable?

I agree that the ads out there definitely attacked with misinformation but aren't we doing the same thing by saying lumping all mormons together and saying they all believe in polygamy and such? Yes a few groups in the church are for polygamy but the church as a whole is against polygamy and often speaks out against the groups that do. You can't lump all mormons together just like you can't lump all african americans together or people who are gay or bisexual or anything else. Do you find this valuable?
