Avoid the Word HATE?
Nov 13 2008, 8:43 PM EST | Post edited: Nov 13 2008, 8:43 PM EST
The Human Rights Campaign for LGBT rights sent me email, as has the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Action Network. Both strongly suggest NOT using the word HATE, but to emphasize respect and love. Let's discuss.
They make a good point. many of of companeros in minority communities voted for 8, and not necessarily out of hate. The UU's are saying that Prop 8 was motivated more by FEAR than Hate.
With this input, perhaps reconsider logo with H8?

i agree with you

i've been using slogans on my signs such as "equality for all", "equal rights", etc..

other positive ones i've seen are "love is the answer", "love is love", "equal taxes, equal rights", "i have a dream too", "nobody dreams of being domestic partnered"

Yes you are right. I posted a topic on the discussion forum that is called "I just want everyone to stay safe =]" and I used the word "Hate" to describe Anti-Gay hate groups. Its important that people know there rights when protesting, thats why I made that forum topic. I had no other word to use, sorry, erm... =/ 1  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Might be useful to define hate words and/or statements that are considered hateful, so folks who are against gay marriage can avoid using those terms and phrases in their opposition and posts. i.e., Perverts would be one word I'd consider a hate word. Do you find this valuable?

To those people who gave me a "thumbs-down" rating.

No, what I meant was that people who are protesting tomorrow for the No ON 8 campaign is to stay safe, be cautious, and be aware that there are Anti-Gay [H8] opponent organizations that may appear tomorrow at the National Protests. The Yes ON 8 campaign will be there also but i wouldn't really consider them a Anti-Gay [H8] organization. Hope that message clears this up.

I believe people should express themselves any way they see fit (non violently and respectfully). You won't be able to stop it anyways. As more protests happen, people will get on the same page. Speakers direct the mood of the crowd. I believe it is all going to work out well. Do you find this valuable?

Well I don't know about you but I HATE the people who look at us like we are perverts. If I want to have an orgy in my living room - it's not anyone else's business. If I want to marry my DOG it's not anyone else's business. Do you find this valuable?

I think, uhm, I know what you mean.

"Just keep out of my personal life"

Well, just as long as you do good things and your not hurting anyone in the process, then why not?

Even though some supporters of prop 8 don't exactly, "hate" gay people, they don't respect them as people enough to give them equal rights. Hate may be a strong word, but it's strong words that get the point across sometimes Do you find this valuable?

""nobody dreams of being domestic partnered""
I really like that one, made me laugh :D

I'm considering going with something showing that there's support for equal marriage rights in the hetero (me) community as well... maybe
