Prop 8
Nov 14 2008, 2:11 AM EST
You know this is ridiculous that this crap is still going on. It was put to a vote and the majority won, plain and simple. SO GET OVER IT!!! Do you really think that standing on a street corner, yelling at cars going by is gonna make people change their minds? The answer is NO ITS NOT!!! The public has spoken!

It happened before when blacks stood up for their equal rights and marched in the streets. IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!We all deserve the same rights. Equality for ALL. 16 out of 16 found this valuable. Do you? |

Should we all have sat at home during the Vietnam War, and civil rights movement also? This goes far beyond gay issues and is an infringement on my civil rights and ability to make MY OWN choices about how I live my life. Frankly, I don't want the government or anyone else telling me how to live and make my own choices as long as I don't harm anyone else. I always find it uniquely interesting, that those who claim to want less government, regulation, and restriction are usually the first to vote FOR the very thing they claim to be against!!! Perhaps I am just too logical for today's brain washed TV ad mentality.

Except that in democracy, the rights of the minority are supposedly protected from the will of the majority. The "public" is largely uneducated and ignorant. I'd rather that people who actually understand the constitution get to decide what rights I get to have. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

Shouting insults is not the answer, people. Show them with your actions. Do not feed into their hate-speak. Acknowledge their opinion (this is still a Democratic Republic, after all), know they are wrong to assume the majority gets to choose the rights of the minority, and move on. Plain and simple.Show them you're angry by joining the advocacy in your area (next up is the DOMA demonstration on Jan. 10) -- perhaps, on the National level as well. I think there's a march on Washington D.C. planned for this summer... don't quote me on that, though. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Great Opportunity to learn more about our options from Courage Campaign"Jerry Brown wants to talk with you about Prop 8. The movement for marriage equality stands at a crossroads. The California Supreme Court has heard oral arguments in the case to overturn Proposition 8 and restore equal rights to same-sex couples. The ruling could come anytime between now and early June -- and we must be prepared for any outcome. One of the leaders in the effort to overturn Proposition 8 in the courts is Attorney General Jerry Brown. As California's highest law enforcement official, he courageously refused to defend inequality, arguing to the California Supreme Court that Proposition 8 stripped away fundamental rights and should not be upheld. The Attorney General is in a unique position to help us understand what the next steps are in the legal and political strategy to restore marriage equality. That's why we've invited Attorney General Jerry Brown to talk exclusively with you on a special "Courage Campaign Conversation" statewide conference call this Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m. PT. Space is limited, so please click here to RSVP for the call: http://www.couragecampaign.org/JerryBrownRSVP" Jane 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

I know alot of people who feel the same way as Anonymous. They don't necessarily have to be racist, homophobe or a coward. They are unsure of where our movement has taken us. I don't blame Anonymous. Personally I think deep down we all get demotivated, agrevated, frustrated over the lack of movement. I think the protests, the vigils etc are a great start. I personally do not believe in letters, petitions and postcards. I just don't honestly see the individuals who hate us stopping the homophobia to read a personalized letter. They have drones to read those letters and honestly they don't pass it one to where it counts. We need to take to the streets, we need to boycott the economy and let them see our buying power. We need to bail out Anonymous from the closet. It's really not as scary as it looks, when your fighting for what you believe in. FIGHT ON!!!

I think this is a very interesting post. I've often wondered what possible 'end-game' the right see with regard to gay equality. Clearly, this person thinks that a simple vote on the matter ends things. To be clear, the right will need to defend their system of discrimination every single day from now till the end of time. At no point will gay people just give up and accept second class citizenship. So then, given this reality, what possible final outcome can the right possibly hope for? As I see it, all they can achieve by protracting this debate, is battle never ending. That's the best I think the right can realistically hope for. So, NO mr./mrs. 'Anonymous' we won't get over. We're going to be more in your face now than ever before. Just wait till we start demonstrating, disrupting and crashing hetero weddings. Life will become more uncomfortable in the coming years for those upholding a system hetero privilege, and special rights.
