Anything in Sac for World AIDS Day 0 1 minute ago by InclineVillager Thread started: 1 minute ago Un-Watch Is anything Happening on Dec 1st in honor of World AIDS Day? I am a lesbian who is Married in CA. but I also happen to work for a nearby county that extends to Rosville. (Placer.) in HIV/AIDS Ed. and Testing and Counseling. I was wondering if Sacramento was going to be having any candlelight vigils that day or any HIV positive speakers for World AIDS Day.. I feel there is a strong connection between this Prop 8 opression and the amount of abuse we LGBTQ people have suffereed /low self esteem/drug and alcohol abuse/depression/risk taking/ and chances of infecton with HIV. We have traditionally used HIV positive speakers to speak to students in schools about how not feeling good about themselves lead them to some kind of unhealthy behavior which lead to their infection. I would love to see an HIV positive speaker make the connection between Prop 8 denying Marriage equality/self esteem/and health impacts. While letting the community acknowledge friends and family members who have been infected or affected by the HIV epidemic that sill goes on. This discrimination towards our community has harmed us in so many ways. Emotionally, physically, spiritually, psychologically. The effects of discrimination and oppression have health impacts. Ca. needs to face up to it. The religious need to face up to it. Not LGBTQ person may want marriage but should have to right to it. It is more the self esteem, dignity, and divinity that each of us inherintly has, that needs to be acknowledged by repealing prop 8. We are sacred in Gods eyes. By denying that they are denying us our humanity.
