Is it ok to go to your local gay bar and restaurants on December 10th?

Does anyone out there know if its ok to go to the local gay bars and restaurants on Dec 10th???

Urban Mos in Hillcrest San Diego is promoting Happy Hour all day and night in support of Day wothout a Gay. But then again, they're making us spend money. Are they donating some or all the money they make to a fund or something???

If you're asking if it's ok, of course it is! If you're asking if it's part of the "official" plan, which I gather everyone's free to adopt or not as they choose, I don't think that was envisioned.

I think the idea (and I don't speak for it officially in any capacity) was for a complete one-day boycott of all economic activity ... with recommended activity to be charitable in nature. In fact, it was recommended to withdraw $80 from your bank account that day and not spend it (or any money) on anything.

Many people object to this idea for many reasons, among them because it might negatively affect gay-friendly businesses. I think that's hogwash ... but specifically supporting gay-friendly businesses that day has become a widespread alternate event.

That said ... is the bar you're thinking of patronizing REALLY gay-friendly, or just gay-dollar friendly? I ask because we found out, to our dismay, that most of the businesses in West Hollywood that cater to and in fact depend for their entire economic existence on gay patronage did NOT support efforts to stop passage of Proposition 8.

So do as you please ... but please act with conscience and wisdom.

I think Zlick has a point. Some gay bars and businesses are just in it for the dollars. I would ask the employees if the owners offers same sex benefits like health insurance for partners and do the openly show there support for our community but donating/ participating in GLBT charities before spending money there. But otherwise I don't see the harm. I would rather our dollars 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Go, have fun, start the conversation, post a flier, have a fruity drink with an umbrella, talk about light up the night, dance, post a print out of light up the night, have some nachos .... it's day without a gay but a great day to be with other gays and our friends of course. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Thanks Zlick...yeah Urban mos is strictly a gay business and did help a lot in preventing the passage of Prop 8. Maybe now I'll stop by for a drink and pass out fliers on upcoming rallys. Hope to see you all in San Diego one day! Hillcrest is the bomb! Do you find this valuable?
