20. RE: SHUT UP AND MOVE TO THE BACK OF THE BUS!
Dec 17 2008, 6:25 PM EST
Ok, How about this? Everyone bring a bag of your old SHOES and throw them at an effigy of George W. Bush! That will express your disgust for our government without speaking a word and will guarantee press coverage.

23. RE: What's up?

"He's referring to Light Up the Night, and many people don't agree with the concept of peacefulness and silence and/or singing, as opposing to anger and chanting and/or protesting. He's not only entitled to that opinion, he's doing the right thing about it ... choosing not to participate."I'm in favor of people engaging in as many legal protests as they care to, in as many legal forms as we can come up with. And if someone thinks Light Up The Night doesn't say it, and throwing shoes at an effigy (to use the idea mentioned) would send a statement they'd rather be part of, I wish them best of luck on putting together their own protest. We try everything we can, we don't actively sabotage each other's efforts, we use our own ideas when not happy with other people's, and in the end we find something that works and we succeed! 2 out of 2 found this valuable. " Sorry, I will never keep silent for your organization or any other. I therefore will not participate in your demonstration. When you act like sheeple, the religious right hate mongers will have even less respect for you than they do now. This is one Viet Nam vet who never takes any disrespect from anyone for any reason.LOLO, I like your style. After seeing last nights interview with Rev Warren there is no question that talking reasonable to irrational bigots is a waste of our time. If it wasn't for groups like ACT UP that brought national attention to Aids we wouldn't have many of the drug treatments we have today. Has everyone forgotten that silence = Death during the Aids epidemic? Where would we be without the activists back then. I'm also old enough to remember the importance of civil disobedience during the Vietnam era and I think there is room for us to do both the silent and the more forceful louder protests. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. "Complete agreement about having both more silent and more forceful protests. I don't think the Light Up The Night-style protests are the only thing we should be doing. I do think they can be useful, and should be held in the spirit intended. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Civil disobediance is the way to be when you're fighting for your rights! This does not mean you have to be violent, however. Shout loud, yes. Be angry, yes. Don't hurt people or property. As has been said, that can only hurt our cause.--"All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." --"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." --"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." --"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and conveniences, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." --"A right delayed is a right denied." (Remember this for the B and T of the acronym.) And, most importantly: --"A riot is at bottom the language of the unheard." These quotes are the words of the late Martin Luther King, Jr. In my personal opinion, he was one of the best example of how to be upset and still constructively achieve equality. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. "Joshua, I don't know how old you are but, I for one can't wait another forty years for the same rights that everyone else has enjoyed since 1776. Stonewall was forty years ago and here we are still "talking" about fighting for something that was guaranteed to us by the constitution.Thank god! finely someone who knows what their talking about! 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
