Let's get an inclusive ENDA passed

According to Barney Frank, the first lgbt bill to come up will be regarding hate crimes and there are already enough votes for that to pass. The next priority is the Employee Non Discrimination Act. This is hugely important - in 30 states you can be fired for being lgbt! This bill has been in the works for 34 years, yet has never passed. This could be the year. We need more legislators on board for ENDA and ENDA needs to be inclusive of everyone in the lgbt community. JTI should organize a national event to sway legislators who are undecided. The exact action could be decided by the task force or in this forum, but I really believe that an inclusive ENDA is the most important national battle to be fighting right now. With this bill, we have the chance to make an enormous impact in the short term. JTI has the nationwide, grassroots base to lead a campaign like no other that I am aware of. 37  out of 37 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm in Full Support of this Idea, also! Having Secure Employment & The Recognition of Meaningful Intimate Personal Relationships are two Important Keystones to a Healthy Life. I would propose that the Current realities for LGBT of employment and finance, combined with barriers to recognition of our most sustaining relationships, create a serious challenge to Our Community's Sustainability and Well-Being.

After All, what's one of the most common thing folk are looking for on our LGBT dating sites? "Someone who is Financially Stable", correct? Well, financial stability does not happen in a vacuum, independent of social and political realities. If One cannot attain, keep a job, or advance in one's due to Sexual Orientation or Gender Expression, it's hard to meet that "social eligibility requirement" being sought for by many of our own seeking partners.

An inclusive ENDA will Very Much Support JTI's National Goals for LGBT Equality, and I Hope That All Here @ JTI will add this to the areas of Concern and Action.

Peace, Pleasure, & The Pursuit of Happiness!

HRC has been sending emails to its members today involving Gene Robinson and the HRC Blueprint thing they want to have Obama work on in his first 100 days in office. It is an electronic petition. Have you all seen it yet? 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

good point, kims2. the grassroots JTI can really help make their plan for the first 100 days a reality.

"JTI should organize a national event to sway legislators who are undecided."
If JTI's mission is truly "Full equality for ALL LGBTQ community", our Marriage fight will achieve one important part of its mission, but not "Full".

ENDA, which has the "regardless of gender expression and identity" clause, can complement a piece that has been missing in our movement, and reach across "ALL" communities.

Yes, everyone wants a partner with a good job. Not everyone wants or has yet a long term partner.

But whether you're single, single and looking or looking no more because you've found the right one we all need jobs. Also this helps the Obama administrations goal of health care and job creation. Think about it for a moment.

That's 10% or more of the population more likely to be able to get and keep a job.
That's 10% or more of the population more likely to have health care.
That's 10% or more of the population able to provide health care for their family and loved ones.

I support this idea. ENDA is not ENDA if it leaves people out. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Hi guys!

I'm completely down with getting a fully inclusive ENDA passed- actually Join The Impact recently joined the United ENDA Coalition (www.unitedenda.org) and we've committed to only supporting a trans-inclusive ENDA. I'm so happy to see that you all agree.

So we need an idea that folks can get behind and support! The timeline on ENDA legislation should be introduced this Spring. Our Representatives and Senators MUST hear from us to know that only a trans-inclusive bill should be supported. What plans do you have to get the word out? We'll need to not only contact our politicians, but spread the word in our community about the importance of a trans-inclusive ENDA as well.

Please post a clear actionable idea and spread the word to get votes behind it.

Looking forward to seeing your ideas!

Those interested in organizing to get an inclusive ENDA passed can help by building local teams to talk to their Congressional Representatives. The United ENDA Coalition and NCLR have put together a great packet of resources for anyone interested. We NEED GRASSROOTS ENDA TEAMS to get this passed!!! That means YOU!! Contact me today for more info at willow@jointheimpact.com. There should be a wiki page going up soon also. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
