City Elections In California
Jan 28 2009, 2:18 PM EST
Many cities are having local elections in March. And some of the people running donated and actively supported Prop 8. What do you think of the asking people to fight discrimination by asking voters not to vote for these people. These elected officials are elected to represent all of us. For example, Azusa Council Member Keith Hanks is up for re-election and he gave opinion pieces to local papers and his family donated to prop 8: _______________________________ http://www.sgvexaminer.com/images/B%20Oct%2030%20-%20Nov%205%2008.pdf YES on Proposition 8 In my view a YES vote on Proposition 8 will be the single most important issue on the ballot during this election. It is the necessary reaction of the people in a State where all three branches of the government have failed to recognize and support the express will of the people. Since Proposition 22 was adopted by popular vote as the law of California, the definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman thus clearly established has been under constant attack in the Legislature, has been reversed by the Supreme Court, and the Governor has ceased to support it. The only recourse remaining to the citizens of California is to amend the constitution of the state by sheer numbers at the ballot box. When the Government abdicates its responsibility to listen to the vote of the people, the people must respond. The power of the vote is too precious of a right to allow its significance to be taken away by those who are willing to ignore it. Keith Hanks Azusa Councilman -------------------------- Mrs. Hamilton's family also donated to prop 8 and she is up for reelection for treasurer, also in Azusa. Do you find this valuable?

Here is a copy of the letter that hanks wrote to the San Gabriel Tribune:Power of voting In my view, a "yes" vote on Proposition 8 will be the single most important issue on the ballot during this election. It is the necessary reaction of the people in a state where all three branches of the government have failed to recognize and support the express will of the people. Since Proposition 22 was adopted by popular vote as the law of California, the definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman thus clearly established has been under constant attack in the Legislature, has been reversed by the state Supreme Court, and the governor has ceased to support it. The only recourse remaining to the citizens of California is to amend the constitution with a ballot measure. When government abdicates its responsibility to listen to the people, the people must respond. The power of the vote is too precious a right to allow its significance to be taken away by those who are willing to ignore it. Keith Hanks City Council member Azusa Notice that in both of these letters, he is using his political status to influence people into supporting prop 8. Do you find this valuable? |

F.Y.I.......I don't think this one is up for re-election at this time, but in Elk Grove, Ca the ONLY member of the Elk Grove City Board of Directors who was involved in Prop 8 was Jack Williams owner of two "Smog N Go businesses. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - Elk Grove Stake. His donation was $5,000.00.We all have to have our cars smogged, but I think we could find a different shop to do it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
